I never had pu erh, are there any samples available?

One of the intentionally aged teas, Pu-Erh has a loyal following.

Many vendors of puerh will sell small samples, quite inexpensively. I'd recommend that you try a couple of samples of some ripe/cooked/shu and raw/sheng puerh to see if you like it. You might start with some of the recommended vendors in the TeaVendor topics.

I have never had Kombucha, but from the descriptions of it that I have read, I doubt it is much like puerh. Puerh is earthy, and the good stuff is sweet, mellow, sometimes a bit spicy, not sharp or bitter.

jas-etea has some samplers:

You could pick up the shu sampler, and one of the sheng samplers, like the classic Menghai recipes.

A friend at work first turned me on to (shu) pu-erh, I found it pretty nice; smoky, woody, earthy, rich. I've tried young sheng a couple of times now, it's a completely different animal, and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet (and I haven't come anywhere near aged sheng). Do read up on suggested brewing parameters before you try to brew any pu, I was amazed at how much flavor came out of VERY short infusions (like 5-10 seconds!).

brian, that site is a clone of Yunnan Sourcing. Same wares, same exact text, what's the deal?

Yeah, I've noticed there's some overlap between jas-etea and yunnan sourcing, I don't know what the story is. I assume there must be some relationship between them, as jas-etea even lists some yunnan sourcing branded cakes. jas-etea does ship from the US. I've ordered from both, and been very happy with service from both.

A Google search works just as well as a post that appears to be written by a semi-literate person. "Pu-erh sample" turns up 35,900 results. "Pu-erh" turns up 458,000 results.

This was a Newbie question, I don't think they need 35,900 results.

badger & blade (shaving forum) member who started his own webstore (on the forum he used to sell pieces of cakes he'd get from Yunnan sourcing)
