Hi, I'm new here and am thinking about getting the Utilitea kettle but I can't decide whether or not to buy the warranty. I was wondering if those of you who've owned one for awhile could tell me whether or not it's worth it.
Thanks so much!

Been using mine for a few years, it's held up okay. I don't enjoy how much plastic is involved, but it's survived falls and is still trudging on

I've had mine for over a year and 1/2 with no problems.

A $10 warranty is 20% of the original price. To me that indicates a high expected failure rate - but I notice very few complaints in the forum about the quality of the Utilitea. Most of the complaints are confusion about the temperature range.
I've had mine for 2 1/2 years - no falls - but regular daily use with no problems.

I use mine several times a day with no issues for about a year now. I wouldn't recommend the warranty. Sounds like Adagio is getting on the same band wagon that the big-box electronic store are on with their "extended" warranties.

Last weekend the filter fell out of my Utilitea almost exactly a month to the day since I got it. When I contacted Adagio they told me that there really wasn't any way to get it back in, but since I was just under the 30 day wire I could send it in for a replacement.
I'm grateful for Adagio's excellent customer service, but another week and I would've been wishing for an extended warranty. *shrug* It wasn't a major malfunction, it still worked, but it was upsetting.

My filter would fall out on occasion, I've just left it out. I've had my utilitea for 2 years, and not had a single problem.

My filter fell out the first week.
I never could get it back in.
No biggie.

Unless you use bamboo Charcoal/maifan stones in your boiling process I've never quite understood what the filter was for anyway. Only water goes in, only water goes out.

For me it's more of a mental tick. "My tea kettle is flawed and I can't fix it." I also get a bit of calcium build up on the bottom and it seemed to help keep the calcium flecks out of my tea.

Hunh. My filter popped off once, but I managed to get it back on with a little force. Good as new. Other than that, I've never had any problems with mine in the last two years.

I removed the filter of my Utilitea on purpose. Maybe I'm OCD (common in the Green Tea forum) but I place a thermometer in the spout to measure the temperature more precisely than the dial permits.
Also, I always use filtered water to prevent scale buildup.

Does the filter just pop out?
Also, I use tap water and I haven't gotten any scale buildup, and I've been using the kettle for a year. Now that I think about it, it would be a good idea to clean the kettle again... it's been a while...

My instruction book says pop it out for cleaning or replacement.
