sakura sencha

by Ramsay » Mar 23rd, '10, 13:49

I am interested in your impressions of this tea. Generally, I don't like 'flavored' teas, but this sounds intruiging. Is the cherry aroma or flavor very mild and the taste of green tea predominant, or is it mainly flowery or flavored tasting?

Thanks

Depends on where it is from.
I can only vouch for the Den's one.

its refreshing ..just different..to me its more cherry notes than sencha taste. its nice for a change if you like mild flavored teas anyway. an depending on temp and ratio you can adjust it a bit too.
im sure others will chime in as the dens sakura is quite well known i think. plus USUALLY at this time if you get their green tea novice sampler thing they throw in a seasonal sample..right now prob the sakura

Smells stronger than it really is, it's pretty mild if you keep the temp low.
I like it; and I'm not a big fan of flavored.

I didn't care for Den's sakura sencha at all but then again I haven't found a flavored green that I like.

Looks like Rishi is offering a sakura sencha now sans additional flavorings: http://www.rishi-tea.com/store/sencha-s ... n-tea.html . Anyone tried this one? Think I was another somewhere else on the net, but can't remember where...

BTW, I have a bag of the Den's -- jury is still out on this one. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I feel the flavors of Cherry and the sencha fight each other for prominence in the brew which ends up muddying things.

O-Cha has a more natural new one as well, it is sencha leaves, kukicha (or karigane), and sakura leaves. Kevin has stated that is also has no additives ... no flavorings, etc. It sounds and looks very interesting.

These newer more natural selections are certainly worthy of trying.

OK, first brewing of the O-Cha Sakura Sencha. Reallllly nice!

I find that as Kevin has stated, no flavorings have been added. I was a bit leary of this at first when I smelled the dry leaf, distinct cherry aroma though nice and much more subtle than others I have tried which were often garish and artificial.

I was relieved upon brewing, the aroma was lovely, but I would not say it tasted like cherry at all, thus my conclusion, no cherry flavors added. Good job, Kevin.

It was pleasurable, relaxing, casual, unobtrusive, light. These are odd adjectives for a sakura sencha, but I find they are complimentary! Yeah, I would recommend this one!

Oh, and the brew color was realllly green like fuka, especially the second steep.
