Welcome everyone to TEADAY! I hope it is filled with great tea! Please stop in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.
Yesterday we discussed whether TEA or TEAWARE reigned supreme for us. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's teaPoll and discussion topic. Your plane has crashed over the Pacific and you wash up on a tropical but deserted island, a sole survivor castaway! A day later a FedEx box washes ashore. What do you wish for when you open it? Please share details details details.
I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone, bottoms up.

Hand-cranked satellite phone, so I can order a solar-powered desalination device, plenty of different teas, and teaware suitable for use over an open fire.

Debunix stole my idea for a phone!
Guess I'll go with Pu-erh tea.

A puppy? Nah, with no airholes in the box, it'd be a dead puppy, and that's just not ok. Also, what debunix said.
But seriously, probably oolong. I never get sick of it (at least not so far).
Though my standard answer to this question is sunblock - because I'm pasty white and burn after about 20 mins. Even being on a desert island, dying of skin cancer = not high on my list of things to do.
Again, no tea yet - waiting until work. No point in making a pot of tea I'll have to throw out because I can't finish it in the 5 mins between the making and leaving. So I've been checking here instead!

Question:
Does the Island have an easily accessible Clay Deposit so I could make my own teaware? (or at least attempt to?)
Probably Oolong would be my wish...

gping with Oolong..woulda said Japanese green but the Oolong will last longer
Re: Thursday TeaDay 3/25/10 Castaway will son?
Besides practical things like satellite phones and sunblock, I'd hope for oolong. It might make being stranded just a little bit more bearable.

I am going with Japanese greens in foil lined pouches that have been nitro flushed and heat sealed ... now to find a new and very cool TeaCave!
I am sure we could all figure out something to brew our teas in, somehow!
Began the TeaDay with Organic Gamnong from Korea/Hankook, the last of this one. Served up in an Ice Split Wan (SO #10) by Seigan. SweeTea savored the last of it while Ceylon and Pyrit hung out at the TeaTable.
Enjoy the TeaDay!

Ill start out brewing in a half a coconut shell.. while I work on chipping out a volcanic rock cup..
Re: Thursday TeaDay 3/25/10 Castaway will son?
As long as the island is a 'paradise island' with loads of wild fruit & hemp, clear blue water and white sands, I'd take some chinese greens. Preferably some ultra rare teas, that were being shipped to some influential chinese politican.

Well if I couldn't have a female robot, I guess I'd go with some Pu. Lots of steeps

Well, as I've been exploring the island, a kind of large island, I've discovered a couple of things. There's a spring! Woh, I've got fresh water!
There's a couple of caves, maybe more, although one of them is kind of creepy.
Also, I think I've found three distinct and different patches of camelia sinensis growing (one patch is bushy, all the others are trees) -- oh lucky stars! They seem to be like some tea cultivars. And under some of the bushes are some naturally dried leaves - when I take them up and roll them briskly between my hands, they impart lovely aromas. Gosh if I only had a teapot, and a friend.
Walking along the beach, I see a deformed FedEx box poking out of the wet sand. Something in me leaps...
(dear God I hope it's a teapot and if luck holds, with some kind of face or person carved/painted on it).
About to hit the matcha.

I hope the Fed Ex box has an inflatable raft with a folding paddle attached. I'm getting the h**l off this island. I don't have time left to waste alone on an island.
Golden Monkey from Silk Road Teas this morning. Yum.

Aside from some kind of portable boat or communication device, I guess I'd wish for pu-erh. (Sooo hard to pick between that and green tea of some sort, though!
) Green tea would be harder for me to make because I theoretically wouldn't have any way of determining the water temperature.
Looseleaf pu-erh right now-- I'm saving my brick to bring with me on spring break (which starts tomorrow, yay
). Later will probably be some tea that I'm leaving in my dorm over the break, but I haven't packed my tea box yet, so I don't know what it will be.
