Re: looking for a kettle
If you're worried about temperature, your first purchase should be a quality thermometer, because that's how you can make sure of what you're putting in your pot.
That said, I now have two kettles that I like very much: a simplex stovetop kettle that I use at home, and an electric kettle with fully adjustable temperatures (not just 2 or 3 preset temps) from Pino. I've only had the pino a couple of weeks, so can't comment on the durability, but it works a treat. It does tend to overshoot the desired temperature a bit when it first heats up, so I still end up using a fair cup as a cooling pitcher and using my thermometer to be sure, for the most delicate teas.
This is the simplex kettle I've got

and this is the Pino

Re: looking for a kettle
i really like the simplex kettle - i prefer a gas stove to heat water rather than an electric kettle. if you check other web sites you should find better prices for the simplex kettles. good luck.

Re: I am looking for a kettle ...
I purchased this 2.5L Japanese stainless steel kettle about a year ago and have been very happy with it.
Although it is a "designer" kettle by Sori Yanagi, it is very functional. It retains heat very well, has a fairly wide lid opening, and the handle can be moved out of the way, unlike most or all of the Tetsubins.
It is very well made (made in Japan) and it even survived my falling asleep with it on the burner at medium high. The rubber-like material on the lid and handle didn't melt even though I burned my hand pretty good when I removed it from the burner. It had boiled dry but there is no apparent damage. I just had to wipe the black from the inside.
I had Toru at Artistic Nippon order this for me after I saw it online.
