Thursday TeaDay 4/1/10 No first flush tea this year?

by Chip » Apr 1st, '10, 02:30

Greetings TCers! Please drop in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday we discussed ... well ... a green TeaPartay. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic. Oh, and yesterday I celebrated my 100th birthday with 100 cups of green tea and a 100 mile bike ride around Mt. Fuji ... inspecting the TeaFields along the way.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. It has been reported today, 4/01/10, that the recent cold snap that also dumped snow on the developing new tea leaves in Japan and China will have a huge impact on new harvest teas from not only Japan, but China as well. Will this impact your tea buying?

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

No rush for first flush here. Since I'm a poly-tea-ist and a green tea beginner, I can make do with last year's puerh and oolong and green stuff, and probably hardly know the difference.

I am sorry for the people who lost an important part of their crops, but I'll be ok, as long as the tea plants survive.

I'm sad about the loss of tea, but I buy many kinds of tea, so I'm not experiencing a total tragedy.

Oolong-jasmine-green tea right now, probably to be followed by chrysanthemum black tea or white tea later on.

I'd survive without the shincha crop, but let's hope the subsequent crops of green fare better.

Shui Jin Gui this morning.

If I hadnt already heard of this on other post and other articles, i would have assumed you were pulling an april fools prank. Not that it matters much to me, i have plenty of tea for now, i can wait.

Starting the day with bai hao oolong from norbu.

No, I don't think it will affect me much. But India is experiencing drought conditions and I guess that is affecting Darjeeling production. I'm more worried about that, being from "The Dark Side!"

Doesn't matter to me, since I typically don't like first flush teas.

Soon to be in my cup: TGY from Rishi Teas.

I think I'll survive... I have enough things on my list of "want to try/get more" that I'm not worried about first flushes at the moment. Though it definitely stinks for those farmers.

Gunpowder this morning. More after lunch. And an Easter box from my grandmother!

To think its the one year anniversary of the announcement of the deal making Adagio and Teavana the same company... 4/1/???? seems to always be a tragic day in the tea world.

Not much impact on me. I will settle some major purchase of my green tea this week. I largely give up westlake long jing, which is over-priced anyway even in good years. But there are numerous other teas to choose from. Huang Shan Mao Feng and other teas's prices will increase a little bit due to natural disasters in other green tea provinces. But even the increased prices are still very accessible compared with long jing and bi luo chun.

There is always good tea to be found somewhere, I'm not too worried.
Darjeeling oolong in my cup today.

Really? Does this mean no shincha!?!? :o
I don't want to vote until I know more about this.
:(
playing around with mixing the organic kagoshima organic sencha yuuki yutaka and tv gyo. 1st mix that is not great (not bad, but not great).
The yutaka is definitely best solo.
(also some photo play, but pics have weird color for some reason, so might not post). :?
