Friday TeaDay 4/9/10 TeaBooked?

by Chip » Apr 9th, '10, 01:05

Welcome everyone to TeaDay, if you are new to tea or TeaChat, a special welcome to you. You are all requested to share what is in your cup today...all day. If you must reflect back on your TeaDay, please do. Make sure to see what everyone one else is sipping as well.

Yesterday we discussed how many steeps per tea. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic is all about tea books. So how many tea books of varying types do you have? Nonfiction all about tea, fiction in which tea figures a major role in the book. And teaware too! So, let's talk tea books.

I always look forward to seeing everyone on TeaDay. I hope you have many cups of great tea today. Bottoms up.

Somewhere between 5 and 10 (so voted <10).
The only one I've read cover to cover is The Spirit of Tea by Murphy.
Really, really liked that one.

Cheers.

I have to do a complete count but I can not possibly think I am over 5, I think I have 3 or 4. But as of right now I am drinking some Iced TGY, which is rather funny because its the first day its been on the chilly side in awhile.

None, read less than five. I don't like to buy books, because one day there's so much of them I have to get rid of some and it breaks my heart :(.

Those of you who say you have Chanoyu books, are there any that are a must have, or great and educational read?

less than five... Only have one! Chai, The Spice Tea of India by Diana Rosen. Its decent, good place to start as far as masala chai goes... I'll eventually get more, squeeze them into all the science journal reading/school related junk I do!

Having 2nd infusion of Yutaka Midori! feels great outside, can't wait to go run around until I pass out later, been sittin' on my fanny too much this week!

MASALA CHAIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!

Books? Tea? Books in which tea figures prominently? Two of my favorite things in life -- tea and books!!!!!!!!

I own probably less than 15; but that's because I am deaccessioning my library (about 60 years of collecting). At the moment, I own 5 or 6 non-fiction books on tea, about tea, etc. I have three small books of poetry that feature tea, and are illustrated by a personal friend. The rest are mystery books that feature tea, are named for teas, or . . .

Over the years I have sampled many teas because of seeing them mentioned in books. One in particular I remember is how I heard about Russian Caravan Tea. It was mentioned in Elizabeth George's book, Careless in Red and I just had to try some!

BTW, I'm deaccessioning my library and rarely purchase books nowadays. I have a Kindle as I like the ability to enlarge the font, and, also, I can no longer hold large books comfortably.

This morning, Black Pearl Tea with a Jasmine Pearl #12 added. Interesting. I'll have to try it a couple of more times to form a sold opinion.

I have a few Tea books, it seems I'm usually disappointed though, by the information within. They are usually geared towards Westerners who know nothing at all about tea, and quite light on actual information, or even full of misinformation. :?

Hopefully my latest acquisition will be a little different: The Book of Tea by Kakuzo Okakura for my Kindle. (It was FREE!)

Artmom: I just got a Kindle (secondhand from a friend) and I LOVE it! One of the best toys I've ever bought. :)

Hard copies - less than 10. My favorite ones are a few with hundreds of teas' photos. I feel there could have been more books on tea culture, but not yet.

Books I read online - a few Chinese tea books, focusing more on tea culture.

Chinese ancient tea books - Most of them are really in essay size, including the Tea Ching by Lu Yu. But that's just the style of Chinese ancient books - whatever you want to say, you can say it in 20 pages :P

My father has a big book, published in Japan, with most important Chinese ancient tea books included. But we kind of treasure it and rarely open it. Most of their Chinese versions can be found online so I usually read them online instead of using the precious real book :D
