That's HuangShan (close to where they make huangshan mao feng tea). It really isn't as dangerous as it looks. I didn't see any boards with nails to walk on. Mainly narrow carved/cement stairways with chain guardrails. Nice place.

That is actually Huashan in Shaanxi Province. I have been there, and it is as dangerous as it looks. Recently, some of the routes have been closed because too many people fell to their death. I went there years ago and while climbing on one stretch, my friend told me that the day before a person had died at the spot I was hanging on for dear life. Quite unsettling.

Ahh, the pics looked so similar, with the Anhui pointer I thought it was Huangshan for sure. That might explain why I didn't see those dangerous looking boards.

It is a Daoist mountain. The Daoists believe a god lives in the mountain and it was a favorite place with Daoist hermits. The paths were the only ways to get around the mountain. Due to its steep sides, the mountain didn't lend itself well to paths or stairs, so this was the only way to move around on it. Now though they have carved paths into the mountain and even added a cable car. A lot of people still want to go the dangerous route though.

Huangshan is in Anhui and Huashan is in Shaanxi for sure,
