Greetings everyone, and welcome to another TeaDay. Please come in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.
Yesterday we discussed tea and music. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. So, how much was the most expensive tea you ever purchased? Share details if you want, such as what it was, was it worth the money you paid, did you like it, love it...hate it???
I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

Re: Monday TeaDay 4/12/10 Beverly Hills Tea?
I haven't bought any "expensive" teas yet. Still getting started and tasting everything to find out what I like. Thankfully, the less expensive ones are more friendly to my next to nothing tea budget.
Re: Monday TeaDay 4/12/10 Beverly Hills Tea?
'twas a snow dragon from Madrid I bought on a holiday there. Cost 50€/100g so wow, it is 68$/100g...
The teas sure is exquisite, delicious and beautiful, but I've seen them sell snow bud in other stores for a lot less money. Oh well...
Drinking some "green yunnan" now.

Though I did get Teavana's Darjeeling for Christmas... does that count? I think it's something like $18/oz. Still have over half of it (got probably 2oz), I've been trying to drink it in the mornings at work when my taste buds haven't woken up yet, but it's not working - I think it's been upsetting my stomach, so I haven't been drinking it lately. I've only mostly gotten samples of things so far really, so I don't have much room to say yet, as the samples are usually pretty reasonable (nothing over $5 for an 8-10cup sample)
On my way to work, so no tea yet... thinking oolong when I get there.

Good Morning Tea People! Happy Monday! I know I've tried some pretty expensive teas but I don't recall the $ details. One stand out was an exquisite ti kuan yin and another a super high end sencha - just amazing. Both hundred of dollars per kilo - wholesale.
Have a good day!

No expensive tea here yet either, and my closest would be Teavanna as well. $18 for 2oz. of Sencha. Everything I have tried at Den's teas has been much cheaper and better! This board has been such a learning experience.LauraW wrote:+1msmeghann82 wrote:I haven't bought any "expensive" teas yet. Still getting started and tasting everything to find out what I like. $60.00 for 30 g of matcha, in Japan. $2.00 a gram. Worth it for sure...... but not something for a "steady diet".....unless you are rich.
best,

PS: You might have skewed the poll here Chip by not specifying leaf tea versus matcha.

Shoot, yeah Matcha can really throw off my answer too.JBaymore wrote:$60.00 for 30 g of matcha, in Japan. $2.00 a gram. Worth it for sure...... but not something for a "steady diet".....unless you are rich.

For leaf, I have a few times gotten smaller amounts of Gyokuro and Oolong that would be around $70 per 100 grams. Which considering that I have been seriously drinking tea for 11 years, that really is not too bad.
Matcha, yeah, that is expensive. Easily over 100$ based on 100 grams, fortunately it is available in much lower weights.
If one sticks with sencha, Japanese teas really are not that expensive. Venturing into the "Precious Dew" (Gyokuro) and gold dust
Began the TD with the last dribs of Mystery Sencha from Ryu Mei mixed with some mystery sencha from O-Cha. Both of these were actually FREE, so not too expensive today! This blend really worked out exceptionally well! SweeTea approved while Pyrit and Fuji were loitering at the TeaTable.

Golden Monkey Tea from Silk Road Teas and Mariage Freres Marco Polo, both black teas, both wonderful, both $20 for 4 oz., as far as I remember.
I would not mind paying more for something I really like. The rest of my teas right now are in sample sizes.

Probably between $20-30. Much more than that, and I'm not likely to bother with a tea. Generally speaking, I'm cheap to keep.
Currently trying to wake up with some Yi Congou from Rishi. I just cannot seem to get started today.

Well, in 100g size I don't think I've spent over $25.
I did receive a gift of Shi Feng Long Jing from Seven Cups from a friend though, and it was $30 for 1 ounce...so if I had got 100g of it, it would have been about $120

Yummmmy, Yunnan Golden Curls, from the Maestro Series in my cup, nice bold flavor to keep my going on this very busy day at the flower shop.

I'm still a tea-novice and really have yet to venture into the finer teas. I feel like I want perfect (or at least nearly perfect) my steeping techniques on the cheaper teas so I am at less of a risk of ruining more expensive ones later.
That said though, the oolong sampler from the Maestro Series is looking more and more tempting by the day. If only I felt I could justify spending that much!

I rarely splurge on teas and when I do it is usually just a sample. I think the most I've ever paid was $17 for 1oz of gyokuro and $21.75 for 3oz of Dong Ding.
