It is TeaDay everyone. So, bring your cup of tea and share with everyone what teas you are drinking today. Half the fun is seeing what teas other TeaChatters are sipping as well. So, visit TeaDay as much as you can and share as often as you want...the more the merrier.
Yesterday we discussed the most expensive teas we ever had. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
So, share with us if you care to about your experience with black tea. Love it, like it, hate it, yet to try it. Let it all out here. Are there some black teas you like more than others?
I will be looking for you on TeaDay and hope you honor us with sharing what is in your cup! Bottoms up.

Re: Tuesday TeaDay 4/13/10 Black tea desirability?
I like the idea of black tea more than the fact of it. I discovered Yunnan gold and realized that I do not hate all black teas, but have not been able to cope more than a few sips with any other--not english breakfast, irish breakfast, earl grey, darjeeling, keemun; I even tried a couple of single-estate teas from Chado, neither of which I could stand. They smelled just like the descriptions I'd been reading--hints of wine and fruit, plummy, peachy, lovely--but the flavor was unbearably bitter. And I could not dilute them enough to find a sweet spot that let the luscious fruitiness shine through the bitterness. So, I have officially signed off on all but the yunnan blacks.
Re: Tuesday TeaDay 4/13/10 Black tea desirability?
I drink a yunnan black (red) tea nearly everyday, usually in the morning. The last two I've had have both been from Yunnan Sourcing, the spring 2009 Feng Quing tea cake and the one that I've just opened, the spring 2010 Mojiang "gold needle", both excellent!
Have had a funny chest all weekend and my tea palate is seemingly really flat, so avoiding the new spring teas I've just gotten from YS. Had a bowl of matacha instead!

I love some black teas and have them on some days, especially in winter. Black tea is the one I brew with my largest teapot, so it's very convenient for me at work place
Re: Tuesday TeaDay 4/13/10 Black tea desirability?
I drink black tea quite everyday. Usually Himalaya Gold, Golden Needles, Yunnan Gold or Keemun.
Golden Needles this morning and Kame Jiru Shi gyokuro to begin the afternoon.

Re: Tuesday TeaDay 4/13/10 Black tea desirability?
I enjoyed a little black (red) tea on winter mornings last year, mostly Imperial Yunnan and Zao Bei Jian Congou. Most Keemun leave me flat but Jing sent a sample of one last season that was delightful. It was moderately light with delicate flavors (nut, spice, vegetable, fruit) and complex structure. By comparison, tippy Yunnans that I've had have been big and round with a direct bean-sweet flavor. Both are satisfying on a cool day.
Overall my TeaTaste appears to be ``greening'', so who knows what I will be drinking when this winter rolls around.
Hibiki-an sencha superior is in my cup this morning.

Love 'em! Drink at least one everyday, usually Chinese. Although yesterday some rather nice Nepal samples landed at my door. The joys of Spring!
Happy TeaDay everyone!

Re: Tuesday TeaDay 4/13/10 Black tea desirability?
For anyone who regularly reads TeaChat, this will come as no surprise. I chose option #1 as I drink black tea everyday, very seldom straying, except in the last few months since joining TeaChat!!
Before becoming aware of the huge selection of teas in the world, I drank mostly Chinese blacks. Three particular black teas that I've explored in the last five or six months I really like are Golden Monkey, Black Pearl, and, the tea gift that led me to TeaChat, Mariage Freres Marco Polo.
I use small European style tea pots, though, as I'm the only tea drinker now. My big teapots are just objects to admire.
Off to have a cup of Black Pearl now, with a planned cuppa' Marco Polo later today. May you have a great TeaDay!

The only time I take a break with black tea now, is when I get a craving for Pu-erh. Black tea is basically all I drink during the day.

I on the opposite side of the spectrum drink black tea occasionally as my 2nd tea of the day. Mostly Keemuns, however I do like a lot of the Yunnans from Adagio.
Today a switch from blacks as my 2nd tea and am currently sippin' Bai Hao from Rishi in a small rice cup. Flowery nuances in taste and aroma fit right in with the work table at the flower shop! Currently creating Ikebana style for a local Asian restaurant.
Nice sencha combo this morn with the mod and the catz at the TeaTable.
Enjoy your TeaDay everyone.
Re: Tuesday TeaDay 4/13/10 Black tea desirability?
Black tea is my morning tea. It is what gets me out of bed in the morning and snaps me out of that half-asleep daze. I pretty much have some every morning, and I adore it, but generally I won't drink it during other times of the day.
Re: Tuesday TeaDay 4/13/10 Black tea desirability?
Black tea every day with occasional straying into oolong country and infrequent forays into greens.

Re: Tuesday TeaDay 4/13/10 Black tea desirability?
Began my TeaJourney with black mostly. And for years I began every day with one. I still really like Keemuns, Darjeeling (and Nepal, Sikkim, etc), and some Golden Monkey. I never liked Yunnan, but some of the recent Adagio Yunnan have been very enjoyable. I just don't get excited about black teas currently.
Began the TD with mystery sencha from O-Cha which was pretty good today. SweeTea certaainly enjoyed it while Pyrit and Gandalf were hanging out at the TeaTable.
Currently Korean Gamro, Hydrangea. Nice, refreshing, sweet, and mellow.
Hmm, might have a black today.
And be sure to read tomorrows TD topic!!!

Re: Tuesday TeaDay 4/13/10 Black tea desirability?
I've had such a dramatic change of taste over the past year thanks to teachat expanding my tea adventure. Black teas were my favorite before I was drinking loose leaf but once I got into the good stuff and discovered fresh greens and oolongs I quickly found I prefered many others to blacks. So I still drink black teas occasionally but not very often and found I didn't even order any for this year.
