Friday TeaDay 4/23/10 Be real, # you are currently drinking?

by Chip » Apr 23rd, '10, 02:10

Greetings TeaAficionados, welcome to TeaDay. Please come in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday we discussed anticipated TeaSpending for 2010. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

OK, realistically, how many different teas are you currently drinking in say a week. Bonus questions: (versus how many teas do you have open) and what ratio of Open:Drinking?

Bonus example for mathematically challenged ... or simply brain dead today  . If you have 10 open and drinking 5, your ratio is 2:1 ... 10 divided by 5 equals 2, thus 2:1. You will likely have to round off.

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

I am mathematically challenged but am not at home to count how many teas I have open- so I'll use that excuse for now when it comes to ratios.

I do drink - on average - 3 different teas in a week.

Red Rose???? Fuh real? Anyway...

Drinking 8 or more diff teas per week. I can't afford to have more open than I drink and I don't buy tea that isn't worth drinking anymore. If I don't like a tea that I get, I just drink it all up in a couple of days. As i am doing now with Yuuki Gyokuro Gokou. Not hard when the bags are small (^^)

Now steeping some nasty fukamushi from Kawane. It was a gift and the can looks just like an ali shan can with a steam locomotive on the front! I think half of this can is going straight to the chickens

It's less than a year since I discovered that oolongs come in other than dark roast. I love to gather several related teas and do comparative tastings to educate my palate, which has been very helpful, but means I have too much open at a time. And I have a lot of small samples, ordered, swapped, traded, or freebies with paid orders. Do I have to count the samples, however small the quantities? And what about the teas that I have some of at home and at work: do they count twice?

I drink 2-4 different teas daily; probably 12-15 different teas in a week; and something on the order of 20-30 different teas in a month. Except for the morning sencha, I doubt there's a tea that I drink more than 3 or 4 times in a week.

So I drink lots of different teas, have way too many open, and depending on the answers re: samples and duplicates, I probably have lots open for every one accessed within one week, or tons.

I drink 2-4 different teas a day, about 12-15 different teas a week. I have way too many teas open, but they are all portions under 2 ounces. I am a loose leaf newbie who has tried to sample several different teas, tisanes and herbal blends to get a feel for what my tastebuds like. If I had to count open samples all he'll would break loose as I have a large bag full of samples from swaps and purchases. Best be getting to a cup.

I drink 2-3 different teas a day, and open teas I have.... err... 24, most of them pretty old though. Green teas last longer like that.

Today at least Yu Lang Xiang and two new pu-erhs. It's going to be interesting to compare sheng and shu finally.

Two sencha, one gyokuro, one matcha, houjicha, two keemun, gold needles: 8 teas this week so far. Sometimes more (up to 15 I guess). Definitively more when Shincha, FF Chines greens and Himalayan teas will arrive.

Not counting samples, I have 14 different teas opened right now.

Musashi sencha before lunch.

I'm drinking 4 to 5 different teas a week right now. I have about 14 samples; the rest are not samples. My ratio is 4:1 (thanks for the cheat sheet, Chip!)

Had Black Pearl tea this morning, with a pinch of MF Marco Polo added just so I could sniff the aroma of the Marco Polo!!! :D

I drink about 10 different teas throughout the week.

Started today with hojicha and now sipping on some Ali Shan.

I have five open teas. And not counting pu, which is in long-term storage, I have 27 packages of tea with ten more on order, mostly shincha.

I drinking the last of my matcha sansui right now.

EDIT: I misread the question, so here is the rest of my answer.

For the last twelve months there has been a 1:1 ratio between the teas that I am drinking and my open teas. Hibiki-an sencha superior at lunch, perhaps asamiya benefuki in a little while.

On weekdays, 2 different teas - one at home and one at work.
On weekends, it could be more or less depending on my mood.

I don't know how many teas I have open right now - plus it's too early in the morning for my brain to wrap around the math!

Nilgiri Neela at home this morning. The work tea is still undecided.

I probably drink 6-7 different teas per week, maybe more. I just drink what I feel like at the time, so I don't really keep track. Let's just say that I only have two unopened bags of tea in my full cupboard.

Tao of Tea's Black Dragon oolong at the moment. It smells kind of like toasted marshmallows.

Bah, if you include samples, the numbers are just stupid.

If you don't include samples, the numbers are still just stupid. Over 15 kinds a week for sure. I haven't actively bought any tea since Christmas, and I still have way more on hand than I can seem to drink.

Best problem ever. :D

Going to eat me some pancakes then drink some DoMatcha.

Trying Adagio's Maestro black tea Wuyi Da Hong Pao today. Had my first cup.

Smooth black, with the absolute faintest whiff of a smoky aroma -- or was I imagining it? Very pleasing. If I can figure out how to use my little digital scale  I'll know better how much tea I'm using. The leaves are a bit long to use a tea spoon--one made for measuring tea.

I'm looking forward to my second steep shortly. :)

I have now tried all four samples of the Maestro blacks. Enjoyed them all--I found the pu erh a bit stong (as in caffeine, apparently) as I got quite jittery. Other than the fungal aroma (too early in a.m.), I enjoyed it.

Still have to try the TKY and the Pouchong.

OK, I will pretty much not include samples. If I did, I would go crazy trying to count them all and do the math.

Hardly a green tea leaf in the house, I have done a pretty good job using almost everything up. Usually, I would have 5-7 teas running, and about the same number open, again not including samples. My ratio is almost always 1:1. I am brewing and drinking virtually everything I have open

This is a very comfortable and stress free position to be in ... the only downside, realllly lean right now.

So, right now, I have 5ish teas open, using all of them in the course of the week.

Began the TD with Gyokuro Kame from O-Cha brewed and served up in a Zuiho Ono Hagi Gyo set. It was Hagilicious! Brewed it up stronger than usually, around 2.5:1. SweeTea enjoyed the added potency while Fuji and Ceylon visited the TeaTable today.

A box arrived from Japan today, well 2 actually ...
