Today is a great day to declare TeaDay!!!
So, come to TeaDay and share what is in your cup...stop by often. While here, make sure you see what is in everyone else's cup.
Remember, all are welcome...newbies or oldies to tea.
Today's TeaDay Poll...I hope you find it interesting. There is always something you have not tried, am I right? So, what do you really want to try next.
In the discussion of this subject, there are no real rules...if you drink pu-erh for example, but there is one that has been talking to you, share that with us. If you never tried Pu-erh, but want to try that, great, tell us.
You get the idea.
Yesterday we discussed activities we do during tea. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Have a great TeaDay everyone and see you here!!!

Re: Thursday teaday 4/29/10 The next tea you want to try is?
I sort of cheated in my response of japanese green, puerh, and oolong, because each of those descriptions encompasses several wishes:
Now that I know they exist, I'd like to try some handmade sencha aka temomicha, but since I've barely dipped my toes into senchas--have tried most of Den's varieties, going to try a direct-from-Japan next--I think this is one to hold off on until next year. In retrospect, I pretty much wasted some very fine Dragon's Well by buying it before I knew what to do with it, buying it only because I'd read it was supposed to be great.
I also want to give matcha another try, but after a few not-so-brilliant experiences, I think what I really want is something else 'in the know' to make me a cup or three of their faves, so I can be sure I'm drinking a well-prepared example before I decide that they really are not for me.
I want to try the beautiful purple bud puerh featured by JK Tea in several threads here, because I'm really liking the 'purple bud' I already have, and this one looks like a better quality version. I'd also like to try a couple of samples of some older sheng puerhs.
Because I love all things oolong, I want to try a true 'jassid-bitten' Oriental Beauty oolong from Taiwan, and I want to go to Phoenix mountain and watch all the steps of the production of my own tea from a single ancient Dan Cong trunk/stem/tree/bush, and I want to try oolongs from all over the world--Japan, India, Sri Lanka, and when Roy Fong has his plantations growing, from California.
I think that's enough for now.

I think the only thing left for me to try would be a 50+ year old sheng Pu-erh. Anybody want to donate some?

One of those 'can't recall where I read it' posts or blogs memorably suggested that eventually puerh starts to degrade, even in the best storage conditions, and suggested that beyond 20 years, few teas are improving.
It would be very interesting to be able to decide for oneself if that was true!

As a beginner, I want to try everything, just everything.
But next, some good white tea (haven't had white tea for 6 months), Darjeeling (haven't had for a year), and a Korean green tea, I really want some Korean tea, so english vendors, start stocking some!

Being new to all this I have plenty of teas I want to try. But next on my list is Matcha! My new Chawan is on its way from ChicagoPotter - and have ordered the starter set from O-Cha for the rest of the supplies.
The green oolong's I have just tried from Adagio's Maestro collection have me intrigued to try some of the darker oolong's as well.
Started today with dragon pearls. Some sencha when I get to work sounds good.

Remember, this can be a type you have had, can be anything such as even a particular selection you have been watching, and of course can be something completely new to you.
I am always searching for new Japanese greens to try. So, a few new sencha and gyokuro ... and I guess matcha as well! And throw in some Chinese and Taiwan greens as well!
Oolong, Rou Gui that has the true cassia aroma, nothing artificially added!!!
Began the TD with some rather drab dribs and drabs of remnant senchas. It was actually not bad, but I miss the Yutaka Midori that has blessed the TeaTable this week. SweeTea offered no complaints while LilBit made a rare visit to the TeaTable.

I second this, I've only had one matcha, and it was made with rather... unorthodox tools. And I still couldn't drink it without having some little sweet with it (which I know is perfectly acceptable, but I don't like the necessity of something sweet just to make it so I can stomach the tea - that doesn't seem like real enjoyment to me). There's a couple on the list, likely Ippodo, maybe another from Den's, but Ippodo at least will have to wait until I have enough in my TeaBudget to make it worth the shipping cost to order...debunix wrote:I also want to give matcha another try, but after a few not-so-brilliant experiences, I think what I really want is something else 'in the know' to make me a cup or three of their faves, so I can be sure I'm drinking a well-prepared example before I decide that they really are not for me.
I also said oolong, as there are many that I want to try, have tried and want more of, and I'm sure still ones I don't know about that I want. The Maestro collection is one, but I've now had samples from various vendors and loved them all, and I want more!!!
Nothing yet, on my way out the door to work. Maybe my last bag of Earl Grey this morning.

Other-I usually try tea by a company and purchase several varieties (a black, flavored black, green, herbal). I like variety with my tea drinking and different caffeine levels throughout the day.

I checked Other -- I've had tea from India, but I would like to try a nilgiri. Geeber1 has piqued my interest in it.
Yesterday was a black pearl TeaDay (a couple of infusions) and then, for the last cuppa' of the day, I dropped in a pinch of MF Marco Polo, just for a little different flavor. It worked.
I'm going to try something new today (I still have samples I haven't tried).

I put the two areas I am lacking experience: Pu-erh and Japanese greens, and the one area I couldn't resist: oolong!!!!!!!!

Hummm well I guess I am just looking forward to the 2010 First Flush Darjeeling samples on the way. Actually more so the Spring Oolongs when they begin to appear.
In my cup this morning Red Peach from Silk Road Teas.

Re: Thursday teaday 4/29/10 The next tea you want to try is?
Just tried the sample of Ooooh Darjeeling from Adagio. Apparently, it is a first flush oolong from an estate in Darjeeling. I ordered it thinking it was a black.
Excellent tea. Not as "heavy" as a black, but fits my taste better than a "green" oolong. A nice change of pace. Will work well for an afternoon or evening tea for me.

Likely a different Japanese green from a differnt source. Not "searching" something will just catch my fancy at some point.

I'd like to try a New Zealand Oolong. Very curious...
