Re: Sunday TeaDay 5/2/10 Best tea for April?
The last week or so I skipped over the usual blacks and dug down into my Pu-erh cabinet for a change. Glad I did...some of the best tea I had all month.

Re: Sunday TeaDay 5/2/10 Best tea for April?
Lots of different teas this month, as usual, and I got some of this brilliant Lao Ban Zhang loose sheng as part of a tea tasting, a tea that required a bit of taming (longish rinses of 20 seconds apiece to control the bitterness) but then was very rewarding for many infusions, and I generally tired before the leaves did.
The competitor was strikingly different: a lemon myrtle rooibos blend, a bright and bold tisane. I'm still trying to score a supply of this one (it's not on the cultured cup web site). My home blend of chamomile/hibiscus with orange is tasting mighty flat next to this incredible combination.

There were a few I liked very much, some dancong/wulong teas from China. Very good quality and character.

Oooooh Darjeeling from Adagio was my fav Tea in April. A rare first flush oolong Darjeeling. Yum.
Nothing yet this morning; didn't get to try Currant Berry Blend (Adagio) yesterday, but I plan to start my day off with it.

Well it would have been a tough call, but one tea stood out among the rest ( it did in price too
.
The Mandarins Tea room 1960's Shui Xian, incredibly long lasting for a Wuyi Yancha, I lost count of how many infusions I did but it was quite a few.
I should say I had it after my last day of classes as an Undergraduate student.

Had a wonderful cup of Currant Blackberry, one of Laura's Signature Blends from Adagio.
The aroma upon opening the lovely little canister is a rush of fruit (currant and blackberry) that definitely awakens your thirst! I used 212 F water, and steeped it for 5 minutes. Next time, I plan to steep it for only 4, as my first sip or two had a bitter aftertaste. I dropped in a dab of milk and that smoothed that taste right out.
Bottom line; a very pleasant blend.

April was not a very good month. Drinking up a lot of old stuff. And then some Darjeeling tastings that were not so good. So the only true month long star was Himalayan - so I went with China, even though it is from Nepal. But it is a black, and also I had several good Chinese blacks so I'm fine with saying China. Some good oolong tastings in there but they ran out far too soon. Does that make sense? I guess I'm grumbling. And more of the same for this month as I finish up some older stuff.

Glad you enjoy it! Currant is such an underrated fruit; I developed a taste for it while I was in France, and keep looking for it in the States.artmom wrote:Had a wonderful cup of Currant Blackberry, one of Laura's Signature Blends from Adagio.

Best tea from April... Oolong, none in particular. Finished off a ton of samples, all were awesome, and I'm looking forward to ordering it much more in the future.
No tea yet, got up late after getting in at 3am from a wedding that was 3 hours away. We had so much fun, but the drive home was awful, we were tired and just wanted to be home so we could crash. Tea soon with lunch, probably some Oooh Darjeeling.

The best tea for April was from Taiwan - Special Roast Dong Ding from FLT. I usually drink Chinese greens this time of year, but the weather in the Pacific NW has been less than perfect, and a roasted oolong was a perfect match.
