How to Clean a Metal Strainer
Make sure enough deposit has accumulated. Make sure it is very dry. Then use a small brass brush to brush-off the gum. And it will become like new, well almost.

Yeah, I let it fully dry too, but I have been using a toothbrush.
I also use a tiny bottle brush to go down the spout and clean out the gunkage.

Ya gotta clean your spouts ... you never know what you may find in there. I once found a family of TeaChat trolls I had banned trying to sabotage my kyusu-s.IPT wrote:I use bottle brushes too. Re: How to Clean a Metal Strainer
I rub the wet leaves thru the grate with my fingers while running water over it, that usually works, of course if it doesn't I let it dry (but we don't always have enough time between teas!!!)

Pipe cleaners are good for cleaning the spout. Look for the ones with stiffer bristles.Chip wrote:Yeah, I let it fully dry too, but I have been using a toothbrush.

Ditto! on that darn gunkage.IPT wrote:Darn that gunkage!
The more I try to ignore it the more it tries to take over.

On how to clean a Metal Strainer, I let it dry, then whack it on the side of the sink.

And now how to make it sparkling clean
The attached pictures shows the top of the strainer not cleaned and the bottom sparkling.
I guess you want to know how
Here I spill the secret: boil it briefly in vinegar.
Then clean with a toothbrash and laundry soap. The vinegar can be reused for another clean boiling. Use the cheap kind not that Italian balsamic one.

Thanks for the boiling vinegar trick. I'll try it tomorrow when I can open all the windows and doors.

Re: How to Clean a Metal Strainer
I took out the metal band from my kyusu, let it try, rubbed it a little, then soaked it in water (and kind of "plunged" it up and down), removed quite a bit of the little particles. I didn't have a brush handy (that was clean) so I took a straight pin and just popped out the somewhat larger pieces with the point
