Water coolers (Samashi)
Do water coolers really work? I mean, do they work better than just leaving the water in a pot with the lid off, or pouring it into cups to cool? Is it faster?

Well, they are kool!
Whatever you call them or however you spell it. Here is a pretty recent topic: http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=12630
I use several different types for different rates of cooling, they do work.
Whether they work better than just letting water in cups, etc. That becomes very subjective. I brewed without one for 8 years, no prob. But the tall one I got at that time, well, next to the kettle, I use this more than any other teaware related item.
I actually rarely use the low wide types as they can actually work too good, cooling the water too fast.

Whenever I pour water into cups to cool before pouring into the pot I always burn my fingers. Definitely cools faster than leaving your kettle sit. If you don't care about the appearance factor, you can use a glass measuring cup.
