Urban Tactical Tea Center

by bigmonstertruck » May 31st, '10, 19:23

I put this kit together for myself so that I can make and enjoy quality tea on car trips. The kit is made from a Harbor Freight tool case that I picked up for about $25. It comes with a solid foam insert that fills the entire bottom of the case; the insert is prescored into small squares and one can tear and fit it for a specific use. The larger dividers are also provided, and they help keep the overall form of the layout.

I used the upper tool holder for the following items: timer (dollar store), rosewood tea scoop, travel chasen and matcha scoop (from Den's), electronic scale (Harbor Freight), digital thermometer (Harbor Freight), and a pu-erh pick. I had to cut some of the stitches between the pre-made pouches to store the larger items. Still room for other stuff.

Behind the upper tool holder is room for green tea packets.

The main compartment has cups for green and pu-erh, a strainer, matcha, assorted teas in lock-and-lock containers, a kyusu, a glass cooling/serving pitcher, a yixing pot, and a chawan.

I would have included a tetsubin which I like to brew some teas, but it didn't fit and it is not fragile so it can go with my clothes or almost anything else.

We always take a hot water pot and a thermos for the road. Tea time is any time as far as I am concerned.

Nice work Ed, I stick a gaiwan in my bag wrapped in some tissue along with some tea and cobble the rest together as I go.

Love, love, love this! If I ever get around to travelling more, I'll definitely be stealing this idea.

I've been thinking about taking a pretty extensive road trip lately (sometimes a rabbit just needs to get away from it all)... and I was going to make a travel kit, this is awesome and just what I wanted to do! Thanks for the pictures!

It would be fun to bust that open in random public places and start doing gongfucha just to see how many people know what's going on! 8)

If only you could work in a small camping burner or brazer.

I may be in lust with your tea kit.

I mean I have a travel kit, but it's not for long trips, just for going to the office or out to dinners.

I hadn't thought of doing a more extensive kit because I don't go on long trips all that often. However we have been thinking of doing a road trip or two. I may just need to make something like that.
