Happy TeaDay everyone! Please stop in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.
Yesterday we discussed whether we could have forseen where we are today in this TeaWorld ... and TeaChat. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's topic I am hoping is not too relevant to anyone. How you would react in dire personal financial times. Would you drink less but keep the quality the same...or would you keep up your level of drinking but perhaps sacrifice quality. Or would you start eating and wearing your used leaves to save money? How would you deal with such a problem?
I am looking forward to seeing everyone on TeaDay. Remember, bottoms up, refill, repeat often!

Re: Friday TeaDay 6/11/10 TeaBudget crisis?
I'd have to cut down both on how much tea and which teas--fortunately there are quite a few teas I can still enjoy a lot that are not too expensive, and I'd drink more of them and less of the ultra special and expensive teas.
A couple of years after I started to explore puerhs, my favorite is one that was $16 for a 250 gram beeng, and there are several teas in the 20-50$/lb range that I enjoy regularly and could be happy drinking if I couldn't afford the fancier stuff.
If times were so tight it was Lipton or nothing, I'd stick with nothing.

I checked "Other." I'd go back to my pre-TeaChat days, when I basically drank black teas of mediocre or less quality! I have to have my morning cuppa', and my 4 o'clock. I could give up the other "timed" cuppa's without a problem.
Shared rose congou w/granddaughter last night. She was impressed. Her mother has food issues, so I'm introducing the 13 year old to really good tea, real butter, really good cheeses, really good fruit. That's what grandmothers do; spoil grandchildren!

Probably less tea, depending on how big the budget crunch is. If it a huge budget crunch where it was cheaper tea or nothing, probably cheaper tea. But if we could swing it, just less tea of the good stuff.

Happy Birthday omegapd!
I'd definitely drink the same amount, but probably cheaper and save more of the good stuff for special occasions.
Jas-eTea Taiwanese Ruby Black to start the day.
Have a nice day everyone!

I would drink cheaper tea-- when I'm in college or in NYC, I have easy access to several Asian grocery stores that sell less expensive teas of really good quality. (In fact, I do that anyway! Often, the loose tea there is less expensive than the bags at the store which are of dubious quality. No idea how that works.

Tea of lesser quality, definitely. I'm not sure I could handle drinking less tea on a regular basis. I'm something of a caffeine addict.

Rose congou this a.m. with breakfast. Yum.
Still haven't tried Rishi's Silver Needle, so will try again this afternoon. Yesterday got too busy to concentrate on trying a new (to me) tea.

I drink tea of a quality that I like right now, and I the quantity is such that I don't think I spend very much money on it at all. (I drink a cup, maybe two a day.)
I suppose if things got very dire (I have been a supermarket sample eater in my school days but hope that won't start again when I start more school in the fall) I'd spend more time wandering into tea shops and chatting with the owners. That way I could still be around tea and learn about it.

I would drink cheaper teas... As was previously said, there are some very good teas out there that are very cost effective. You just need to know where to look.
For instance... Kenilworth estate ceylon is one of my favorites and it can easily be had for $20/lb or less.
O-Cha's Uji Miyabi in my cup this afternoon.
Cheers,
Mike

Hard to say what I would do, but I imagine 'drink less'.
Apres matcha, I opened my bag of Shincha Yuuki Yutaka.
Yummm. Vegetal, buttery, penetrating, full of qi.

...and here's a peak at how my sansai tebineri is progressing (only use for greens and whites).

(i thought about posting in 'hagi topic' but contextually i wanted to put it here. hope that's alright.)
Cheers.
