Teavana Yixing Teapots

by dbradley » Jun 14th, '10, 19:46

So I was recently given a Teavana Travel Mug as a gift and the giver gave me the receipt to exchange it if it wasn't something I would use.

Well, I already had a similar mug (that I don't use anyway) so I took it back to Teavana today to exchange it.

They have some beautiful pots but I was a little disappointed that they were all so big. I told the lady working there that I only drink one cup at a time so she showed me a 20oz cast iron pot and said it was perfect for one cup.

I tried to explain to her that I usually brew 3-4oz at a time and she made some comment about me not liking tea that much. She continued to try to sell me on the wonder of cast iron pots but I was determined to find something I could use.

Finally I found a 6oz mouse shaped yixing pot (the only pot smaller than 10oz). I don't love the design but it was the only pot there that I could use.

Does anybody have any experience with Teavana's yixing pots? I wonder if they are just cheap pots with pretty designs and a big price tag.

We have heard it all before when it comes to Teavana sales pitches. Sounds like broken records ... :?

I am sure the mouse will look nice on a shelf somewhere ... their Yixing is pretty much basically decorative quality, though it probably will not kill you.

There lots of topics on this forum regarding Teavana, here is a 23 page monster topic. http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7509

The mouse teapot is probably one of the more useful things at Teavana, but is made for looks not necessarily to improve your tea. Just don't get one of the colored ones. I'm surprised they didn't have a gaiwan there?
