Weekend TeaDay 7/24-25/10 Gimme shelter ... or buy my tea.

by Chip » Jul 24th, '10, 01:53

Yay, tis TeaDay. Please stop by throughout the day and share what is in your cup with us.

Yesterday we discussed whether we spent more time eating or drinking tea. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

This weekend TeaPoll and discussion topic. Tough question perhaps. With what percentage of the tea you purchase (other than small samples) are you extremely pleased? Please share!

I am looking forward to sharing this Teaday wityh everyone! Bottoms up.

Yay, happy dance! 90%.

Finishing up a final stretch-it-out-with-boiling infusion of the OTTI #4 moe.
Tea water is nice sometimes.

90%, usually the bad ones turn out to be among the small samples.

I got some really weird, but really nice Hunanese heicha from a friend :). A cake of a sort, looks like a paste. Can't wait to taste it again.

Yes somehow tough question.
I like trying a lot of teas so sometimes I am disappointed.
But I am not a tea-veteran. Therefore I think my standards are lower. But my failing quota is higher - perhaps in choosing the tea and perhaps in brewing it.
But all in all I think I am on the right way - 80%

It is 11 o'clock - no tea yet. I think I'll have a matcha next and perhaps today will be OTTI day

90% . I don't buy anything but samples until I have tried a tea, so when I purchase, 90% of the time I'm extremely happy with the tea. However, a couple of times, after purchasing a larger amount, I quickly lose my taste for the particular tea, hence the 90%. :D

The not-so-mythical granddaughter will be home next Thursday. She's enjoying herself in California right now, with her mom's side of the family. :)

Oooh I don't know really. I'm still in that tea-newbie-ish phase where I'm buying almost nothing but samples and while I don't adore everything I try, I'm usually happy just to have the experience of trying something new.

I'd say 90%! Like others have said, I tend to get samples first to see if I'll enjoy something (or try in-store for the same effect). So far in my TeaJourney (really the last year or so as far as "branching out" and actually figuring out what I like) I've only gotten larger sizes of 2 teas that I haven't liked - and I didn't have a chance to test them first. But another couple teas that my mother picked out for me a couple years ago got me started on oolong, if not for those boxes I might not have been trying oolongs - tragic, as now I find myself turning to oolongs more and more.

No tea yet, been a relaxing morning (i.e. I slept in) after having a semi-impromptu get-together last night (i.e. planned on Wednesday and ended up having 4 people over, the last of whom confirmed yesterday afternoon). Tea soon, maybe the last of the Oolong #8. Been waiting to crack open a new oolong I picked up while visiting my parents, trying to kill off another couple samples or end-of-bags first.. not sure how much longer I can wait though, this tea is really good!

90% for me. Although I don't buy a lot of samples because I don't buy online too often, I do exhaustive research on any tea I'm considering trying. The only times I'm disappointed are when I haven't found any really good information about how the tea tastes (oh hi there, Tulsi tea), have bought tea I know I may not like anyway, or have been given tea as a gift (which is almost always promptly regifted to friends who will actually want it).

Pu-erh this morning. It's almost always a safe bet for me.

I voted 80%. I will usually buy a few samples or smaller amounts of a tea I haven't tried before. Also, I will sometimes buy a larger amount of a tea I really loved as a sample, and it won't be the same, so I may not like it as well. My recent TeaSource order was about 80% because I bought some Monk's Blend (2 oz., their smallest size.) and really don't care for it.

Adagio Black Dragon Pearls in my new Splitfire Pottery cup this morning. Mmmmm, 100% on that!

more than 90% I like to try new vendors and new teas and I tend not to go for samples often so there´s some risk involved...but I also take my time, research the vendor and think about which teas to order carefully. Usually I end up very happy

It's 90% for me too, occasionally I'll get bored with a tea that I have a large amount of, but then after I take a break from it I find myself craving it again. :)

I think 90% for me too. I still buy stuff I'm not sure of and occasionally that is a disappointment, but not usually.

Tea Masters Da Yu Ling this morning. Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Not much tea today - the end of my sample of Oolong #8 plus some jasmine pearls to make up for the lack of oolong leaves... that's it so far. might go for some snowbud in a bit though... hopefully more tea tomorrow.
