Tuesday TeaDay 8/10/10 Host or visit?

by Chip » Aug 10th, '10, 01:45

Good TeaDay fellow TeaChatters. Welcome to another day on our TeaVoyage. Please share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday we discussed what tea we would be seeking out first on our TeaCruise. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaCruise topic and poll. Given a choice, would you rather be hosting and brewing versus visiting and drinking tea with your fellow TCers on our TeaCruise? See Friday through Monday for info.

I am looking forward to sharing tea on our TeaCruise TeaDay. Bottoms up.

I like brewing my favorite teas for others, and I also like watching TeaExperts doing their brewing, then helping them enjoy the result. So I would do both.

Having some oolong right now. Still can't get over the incredible range of this plant we call tea.

Definitely hosting and brewing. Since we are talking oolongs, I'm
more comfortable in my own element.

Have a nice day everyone!

Methinks visiting and drinking - I still have so much to learn on so many counts that I'd enjoy learning at everyone else's TeaTable. Also, I'd probably spend part of the trip in the galley, making goodies to go with the tea! That would probably be my great contribution...

I am still so new to tea, i think i would do more visiting and drinking so i can learn how to properly brew new teas and try new teas i am curious about.

Finishing off the alishan oolong this morning, will have to order more next week.

Perhaps we could post some schedules, committing ourselves to hosting at certain times, so that the oolongphiles would know when I'd be prepping a flight of pu, and pu-heads would know when chip was doing gyo or matcha, and we could leave plenty of free time for all to do more spontaneous sessions. Might help the ship stay upright if we didn't all rush to one spot first session!

Today I will start with something green. After my sencha resupply arrive from yuuki-cha yesterday, I don't have to be sparing with it anymore.

With TC'ers on the TeaCruise, I think I would rather be a visitor and learn from others, as my brewing techniques are far from perfect.

That said, I also -love- playing the role of the host for my non-TC'er friends and teaching them the little I do know, so I might be willing to host an amateur, "Tea for novices" sort of session.

Methinks hosting and brewing-- I'd be nervous that I'm not as much of a tea expert as some of the others on the TeaCruise, but I host a lot of tea parties during the school year, and it's so much fun. (Well, except when some of my friends don't get along with each other, then it's more like babysitting and making sure cake, cookies, etc. don't get flung... )

Rose congou in my cup right now.

Started my morning with Tea Emporium Puttibong Queen.
Darjeeling is a great way to start the day.

I love both brewing and serving and being served. They're two sides of the same wonderful coin. I love sharing my teas with others and to partake of their generosity as well. Good time.

I checked Other. I'll be hostess, but will need a steward to do the brewing, etc., physical circumstances no longer allowing my love of being a "hostess w/the mostest."

But I really love being waited on and watching someone who knows what they are doing brewing. :)

My formerly nearsighted astigmatic friend said that the morning after the surgery was the first time in 60 years that she could see w/o her glasses when she woke up! My time will come - I'm just hoping scientific advances will allow me to sleep through the procedure.

As for the tea cruise, I was planning to bring along and brew some silver needles and silver needles jasmine, but I may find that I spend most of the cruise on the line outside Chip's stateroom. I'm prepared to bring my own tea goblet.

Your silver needles would make a great pairing with my white bud puerh, since it's basically a puerh made of something very like a young silver-needle stage leaf. We should host a comparison tasting together, perhaps with someone who has a nice long jing style green tea, to show another aspect of the young green leaf.

I think I would spend most of the time visiting others and seeing how more experienced people brew their tea :)

I like hosting too but there´s only a few teas I have which would be novel experiences for most members...and my brewing is not the best.

Teaday started with Bukhial Estate Assam and then my Mom´s order from O-cha arrived with Matcha Iri Genmaicha, Sakura Sencha and Everyday Sencha and a very beautiful little Kyusu...her first overseas tea order (I´m finally getting her into loose leaf tea! )

So I helped her brew the Genmaicha she got the first infusion and me the second...then I pushed the leaves for a third infusion by increasing the time a lot. Delicious toasty flavours and I got a sencha rush I was missing :) Mom was very impressed with the tea...I think she is really hooked now!

Also I placed an order at O-cha for myself...I picked out a Chawan and Kyusu and placed with them the Yutaka Midori Supreme and Organic Ooigawa Supreme
