Western Yunnan Yixing teapots

by bagua7 » Aug 20th, '10, 04:57

In my quest for a reasonable priced yixing and knowing that zhu ni is extinct, I look for teapots that are made of quality clay as they bring up the spirit.

Well I came across this eBay dealer and would like to read your expertise. I know the prices they command are low, but hey maybe they are worth considering as a tool to use for brewing my favourite teas. Here's the link:

Could you let me know which two would you pick of the pots listed?

My budget is very tight and I can't afford expensive clay.

Thanks in advance.

If you are on a tight budget, may I suggest a Taiwanese pot? I think for the less expensive price bracket (say $20-$30), Taiwanese pots blow Yixing away. They are usually better made in terms of lid fit and pour, and (from what I've been told) there is no big shortage of decent Taiwanese clay so you don't have to worry about chemical powders or other additives.

As far as an online vendor, perhaps others could help you out there. I only know where to find them in person.

Hi Tingjunk,

Sure I am open to new ideas. I am not a fanboy of Yixings even though I may come across as one. I just favour clay because of the porosity of the material itself and its ability to retain heat properly. 5 Elements Theory: Fire → Earth (Fire generates Earth).

China is an ancient wise culture. ;)

I will open a new thread to get more attention.

Thanks for your advice.
