Suggestion needed (gaiwan, aroma cups, pitcher...)

by Mao-lo » Sep 27th, '10, 10:17

Hello everybody, i need your advice. :D
I want to buy a gaiwan, a pitcher and aroma cups to start proper tea tasting.

I've found a couple of cups I like (they're listed as "Ru Kiln Porcelain Arome Teacup set" on DTH, are they worth the price, btw? ). They're celadon...which means I need a white pitcher so that I can appreciate the real color of the brew.

I'd also like a matching serving pitcher (to use when I'm not alone) and a matching gaiwan, but I've not been able to find them so far...

The crux is the gaiwan of course, I'm looking for a 60-75 ml thin walled one as I already own a 120ml thick walled gaiwan in wich I can't brew anything over 75°C unless I want to burn my fingers badly...bear in mind I'm looking for quality in the build of the gaiwan, it doesen't matter if it is cheap or expensive, I want it to be high quality. :)
Before anybody suggest it, unfortunately I cannot buy the Tea Gallery one, because they don't ship to Italy :(

If you say the cups are overpriced I'm ready to accept any suggestion for plain white porcelain cups  (PS: I really like eggshell...)

Let me apologise, i know i get quite verbose at times, but you're probably the only pepole I can ask advice about teawares, so...thank you friends :)

Its actually more like 90-100ml.

Its matching pitcher

Just throwing that out there. I prefer glass pitchers myself as it give another unique perspective on the colour etc.

Those high quality white gaiwans are the result of me emailing the guy for months trying to get the JDZ place to make them just for me. Those are the only ones and he only got 5 of the one I linked you.....4 of which are already sold. So that's the last one. And the place will not make him more unless he wants loads. (100+)

So I'd grab it now before it goes.

Just an update on Teagallery.com's international shipping policy. I emailed them last night asking if they have plans to do international shipping as I see people after it all the time. They sent one back saying a few people have requested this and they are thinking of offering it.

So I'd suggest anyone that wants this to also email and request to

info@theteagallery.com
Hi Alex,
Thank you for your interest. There's been a number of requests for
international shipping recently and we are considering the
possibility. I will keep you updated on our decision.

Best,
Dae

Alex, I cannot thank you enough! :D
Today arrived a parcel from Jerry Ma. the pitcher is simply perfect! and the walls of the gaiwan, theyr so thin, astonishing!
I was so happy when I opened packaging of the base and the cup of the gaiwan, unfortunately when I opened the lid...it had shattered during the travel from China to my house... :(
I almost wanted to cry, then I looked at surface ofthe table in fron of me and found out that I have a wonderful cup and a superb pitcher and I felt better :)
Alas, I still need a small gaiwan... :(

Tomorrow the pictures of the cup, the pitcher and the broken lid

Oh, and finally those cute little tasting cups from DTH arrived too, with a new (cheap) strainer and a 50g sample of huang shan mao feng
