Thursday TeaDay 9/30/10 Winner of CHOPPED?

by Chip » Sep 30th, '10, 00:31

Greetings everyone and welcome to TeaDay. Hoping you will drop in throughout the day and share what is in your cup.

Yesterday we discussed what teas got "CHOPPED" during September. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. What tea was the winner of your Chopped, in other words, what was your best tea for the month of September? Bonus, was this somewhat usual, typical ... or very unusual for you? Please share.

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

This has been a strange month for me, and some of the best teas have been the young loose shengs, both from the current OTTI #5 and those that I already had. Lovely stuff. But no one standout, still trying to sort them all out fully.

Today, none of them made it into my cup, during a sencha-free teaDay with some Anji white tea, Honey Iris phoenix oolong, and Jin Xuan green tea.

Upton's Jasmine Green. Very unusual for me to have a favorite green tea...

For me it was the Sticky Rice Toucha from Chicago Tea Garden. It was sweet and just like the rice my grandma used to make. A huge surprise at my first sip. :D

A black, as usual. And, as has been true for a couple of months, it was 2nd Flush 2010 Hattialli Golden Lion Assam from Lochan Tea. I cannot truly describe how wonderful this tea is!!!

No tea yet this morning.

My winners of the month were two blacks from different regions of China but in the same leaf style: Hunan and Keemun Mao Feng.

DaYuLing from Tea Masters was the best tea of the month, actually the year.
:)

Started the day with the last of my Blue Himalayan from Mariage Freres,
sad to see this one go.

The best tea I got last month was California Fields which is a mix of Chinese black and green teas with California sunflowers, Cactus flowers, and rhubarb.

It's partially normal that I would go for a black and green...but it has such a fruity flavor...and I usually HATE fruity...but it's a good kind of fruity and it's even in my top favorites now.

Right now I have Lapsang Souchong(:

Green as usual.
If I had to pick one, It would be the wakamatsu no mukashi matcha which gave me three nice koicha last week.

Keemun this evening.

Ahh, the creme de shino from Cory, suweet Seeker!

OK, back to green this month after a very rare non green fave for August. So green and most usual! It was sencha, though I am at a loss to pick one out, trying a bunch of new ones for possible OTTIs, etc. But I can say it was sencha!

Great TeaDay starting out with Fuji the Ultimate from Zencha. SweeTea was impressed while Wulong and Shincha visited the TeaTable.

Currently Sencha Premier 2010 from Adagio.

The winner was gyokuro, hands down! And it was quite unusual for me because I'd never had it before.

I drank some rose congou this afternoon, then some iced green tea, and I'm currently drinking a sage tisane.
