Re: Tuesday TeaDay 9/5/10 Brewing style influence?
I am between Traditional Asian and Neo Asian.
Though that does not mean I do not occasionally brew a tea in a western style. ( Though its usually in a Kyusu).

The defining is in the eyes of the definer. Please feel free. This is open discussionTwoPynts wrote:Can we define each one please![]()

Definitely Traditional Victorian Brit style. Don't know about European for certain.
Over the years, little has changed in the way I brew or serve my tea. Mama taught me many years ago and it has worked well. I do experiment now that that I am a member of Tea Chat with a few other ways, but am most comfortable when using the traditional style.

leaning towards traditional Asian methinks, by that I mean loosely gong fu style. I like small brewing vessels, under ~150ml, generally lots of leaf and many infusions. Apart from the electric kettle I'm pretty low tech.

I would say I am rather Neo Asian for greens ... Japanerse at least, utilizing Asian brewing vessels, lots of leaf, and shorter brew times, "infused" with more modern tools like timers, scales, and thermometers.
Although for oolongs and pu-erh, more traditional Asian sans the modern tools.
Regardless, many steeps!

A little defining perhaps, just some general info.
Traditional Asian would include Asian brewing vessels and techniques including lots of leaf, shorter steeps. Grandpa method or glass method as well. Multiple steeps.
Neo would include basic Asian flare with the addition of modern elements.
Traditional European influenced/Victorian would be the more Western influence brewing practices including English style teaware, a teaspoon of leaf per 6 ounces water, and longer steeps, usually single steepings.
Neo would include more modern influences
Modern and/or American ingenuity influenced ... pretty self explanatory.

Re: Tuesday TeaDay 9/5/10 Brewing style influence?
Kind of eclectic, i picked modern/american ingenuity. I usually brew semiwestern/semi gonfu style with multiple infusions (sometimes just 2-3) and smaller volumes (4-6 oz) but not a whole lot of leaf. I usually brew out of a gaiwan due to laziness (easier to clean) but i also use an infuser basket, esp when traveling or making a large mug to go.
Started out the morning with about 4 infusions on leftover mansai from yesterday, mixed them all together in a travel mug. traveling today so probably not much more unless i hit starbux.

Interesting topic, I said Neo Asian. I use gaiwans, yixing, high leaf/water ratio & many infusions. However, I often pour directly into one large-ish cup instead of 30ml ones. Also, I never use brushes, tongs, or tea trays & I've been moving away from aroma cups as well.
Sencha today.
Sencha today.

Sencha today too. Sencha Premier from Adagio. SweeTea enjoyed it while Pyrit and Lili came by for a warm lap.
Re: Tuesday TeaDay 9/5/10 Brewing style influence?
I´d say I´m brewing with a fusion of modern asian and modern western styles...with matcha and sencha I brew fairly traditionally using the basic bamboo gear a shino tea bowl for matcha and a tokoname kyusu for sencha but I heat water with my futuristic kettle and I am not very formal about it. Most other teas I brew in a one cup glass pot...I do use a fairly high leaf to water ratio for any whole leaf teas.

Me too.
Neo Asian for the most part with a splash of modern western depending on the situation.
Started the day with Darjeeling, searching now for what oolong to get into.
