Any of these good teas?

by Sirwill » Oct 27th, '10, 21:11

I just placed an order from puerh shop. I already paid so I cant take it back, but I want to know if any are good.
I kind of did a blind purchase on this one, but I wanted to especially try some Nannuo cakes!

Here is my order:

Hello, one more newbie here :D
I am planning to order some teas from Yunnan Sourcing, but I need some advice :) I'm looking for raw pu erhs... I only tried Menghai Dayi, 08 Qing (801) and I like it. I need "ready to drink" tea, because I don't want to wait many years before try it
So, I'm asking for some opinion about these two articles:
http://www.yunnansourcing.com/store/pro ... roduct=621
http://www.yunnansourcing.com/store/pro ... oduct=1324
... or also some new idea?

Thank you very much for your help.

I haven't tried that particular Yong De brick, but I have enjoyed everything I've had from Yong De--my favorite sheng puerh from Norbu, the 2007 White Bud beeng, was from Yong De material; I just had a very nice session with Norbu's 2007 loose Yong De Mao Cha this weekend; and I liked a sample of his 2006 Yong De hand-braided cake so much that I bought a whole beeng.

That's only three teas from one source, but so far, 100% enjoying my Yong De teas. And I have some Yong De white buds from 2010 waiting for their moment too.

Hi Kaja,

I have tried the 2005 Yong De brick but not the 2008 Dehong brick. The Yong De brick I think may be composed of leaves from another varietal of Camellia sinensis (not var. assamica, but some other local "big leaf" tea camellia) based on the color of the brew. It should be interesting to see how it ages. I don't know that I would recommend it as a "drink it now" tea.

For drink it now pu'er, I would recommend shu pu'er if you like the darker "aged" taste. If you like lighter green taste, look for green pu'ers with larger leaves from Xishuangbanna or Simao (Nannuo, Youle, Yiwu, Mansa, Jinggu, Mangjin). Too bitter to drink now would be Menghai-adjacent areas like Bulang, Banzhang; pretty much all of Lincang; plantation material from Wuliangshan; etc.

If you like green pu'er with old tea taste, you won't find much of it carried by Yunnan Sourcing. YS usually only carries very dry stored tea that, after 5 years, has not aged much by comparison to teas in more humid climates.

I'd strongly recommend you to sample. Buy 10 samples and see what you like. If you like one, you can easily order more of it. If you dislike one then it doesn't hurt as much as if it is a whole cake.
I am doing just this right now. We can write about our experiences here :)

I have the 2008 Dehong brick and I must say I love it. Sweet long aftertaste. From my point of view, it is a good bargain. Though I must say that Marco is right : sampling is a good way to start.

I picked up a mega-brick of the 2010 Dehong... pretty potent stuff from what I recall.

As for the original 3 from PuerhShop, I do have the American Hao. Also quite good. I can't remember if the 0801 was better received than the 0802 or if it's the other way around...

If ordering from Yunnan Sourcing, I recommend the 2009 Douji Yi Wu Zheng Shan range or 2007 Mengku Certified Organic Single Estate .

Sirwill,

I'm glad to see you posted a positive review of the CNNP 7581 brick on your blog. I just ordered one myself so I'm looking forward to trying it. Sounds like its a good buy.

It is an excellent tea! I am happy I ordered the entire brick! I shall be drinking that quite often!
