by Chip » Oct 30th, '10, 00:04

Happy Halloween TeaWeekend everyone! Please be sure to share what is in your cup throughout this weekend, sans blood I hope unless you have been watching Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. Red tea is OK! Green tea is too, if it is alien blood or Soylent Green!

Yesterday we discussed questionable vendors. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

It is a Halloween TeaWeekend. In the ghostly spirit, let's talk scary movies. What was the scariest movie of all time for you (on the list or not). Cannot list them all, compiled from several online lists.

Also share the BEST scary movie musical score!!!

Also the movie that scared you most as a TeaSprout.

I am looking forward to sharing in some scary fun on this TeaWeekend! Bottoms up.

I'm a real fan of the old horror movies from the silent era through the 30's. I love the suspense they build. I think those are scarier than the gory ones, although I do like watching them too.

 BOO! Happy Hallowe'en All!

I did really like the Alien movies...but they weren´t super scary xD

Most horror movies I really don´t like watching...they tend to be very gory...which I find more disgusting than scary. :?

There are many new horror movies... but those horror movies that I watched when I was in my childhood days are the ones that gives the most memorable fear feeling.

Eg.

Fright Night (1985)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089175/

The Omen (1976) - and the sequels
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075005/

Other : Kaïro (Kiyoshi Kurosawa) although it is also a social film. I am really into horror movies, especially into the asian ones these last years, as they use different techniques to scare you.

Best music : Halloween's theme.

I love Japanese horror movies and I agree that Kairo is a really good and scary one. I'm also very fond of Ringu, Dark Water, Ju-on etc (but not the American re-makes). I also like very much The Shining, The Others, Rosemary's Baby, The Changeling and Suspiria, and one of my favourites that I really want to re-watch soon is Lars Trier's horror soap series Riget (The Kingdom).
My cup runneth over with DTH's Nonpareil TGY.

As a child of the 50's I loved science fiction movies and the Japanese horror movies of the time - most of which seemed to involve lingering effects of the atom bombs and fear of alien invasions. Now I do my best not to watch scary movies or even scary TV shows because the images stick with me.

One summer in the early 70's - before VCRs - a movie theater in NYC was showing the science fiction movies from the 50's. Each weekend they put on a double bill with a B movie. As a result, one Friday evening we saw the original Night of the Living Dead without knowing what to expect. The very next morning we set out for a long weekend at an isolated country house near a very small town not that different from the town in the movie. As if that wasn't enough to scar me for the rest of my adult life, we spent Saturday evening, a dark and stormy night, playing with a Ouija board with friends. And as if that wasn't enough to scare me back to the bright lights of the city, we took turns with the board, but still all the messages appeared to come from the same "person". So, no more scary movies, and no more oija boards.

In my cup this morning - I think in honor of Halloween I'm going to drink nothing but pu-erh this weekend.

Well....it's too early for me but I just couldn't sleep. I'm still waiting for my pot to heat up!

I picked other only because I love scary movies and don't get scared by them. The only movie that has scared me was The Ghost and the Darkness. This is the one about the big lions from Africa. I was so scared when I came home I didn't want to get out of the car!

For movie score that's pretty hard for me because I don't recall them all. JAWS is always a favorite.

I love the scary movie genre in general, much in the same way I love roller coasters. Just love a good scare I guess.

Possibly my fave of all time is The Shining combining Steven King and Jack. A winning combination. Silence of the Lambs is up there to. I remember seeing Halloween when it first came out, on Halloween, yeah, that was horror scary.

Best scary music from a movie for me ... The Shining, Halloween, Jaws.

Growing up, The Wizard of Oz almost scared me to death.

Night of the Living Dead is truly a classic horror flick, although the makeup/special effects are left in the dust by today's standards. However, that is definitely part of its charm. It was filmed in a town very, very close to us. So yeah, it scared me as a child!

Our mod also was frightened as a child by the Hitchcock film, The Birds!

It truly is hard for me to pick one fave, I agree with Chip's picks with Silence of the Lambs being the possible winner. I also was terrified by Polanski's Rosemary's Baby and currently a different kind of horror with the original Swedish film, Let the Right One In holds a top spot. Have not yet seen the remake entitled Let Me In.

Best scary music from a movie is a toss up between Psycho (the shower scene), Halloween and Jaws.

Psycho The music from The Shining The witch in Snow White was my first scary character. I no longer watch horror movies; there is too much real horror in the world.

No Tea yet, but probably Imperial Red (Da Hong Pao) from Silk Road Teas, a great black tea with a wonderful red color. :D

The Shining is my favorite scary movie & one my favorite movies in any genre. The tension throughout the movie is almost palpable and the musical score creates this effect, so it's my favorite. To date it is the only movie that has made me yell out loud (those twins). I love Stanley Kubrick. I also love the original Nightmare on Elm Street, truly scary and has Johnny Depp in it as a bonus. The original Night of the Living Dead is also favorite - I never get tired of watching it.

By far and away the scariest movie I've seen is El Orfanato. It's Spanish, which makes it even scarier, because you can't look away from the screen because you're reading subtitles. Unless you understand Spanish, of course.

I sat in terror for most of it then cried like a baby. Great flick. :D

Honourable mention goes to The Shining.
