I just ordered a kyusu for a friend, at his request, that contains an obiami filter. 360 degree wrap around. I don't own one of these pots and this will be his first. Do the broken pieces of fukamushi-cha come out of the screen with hot water rinsing, or do you have to use a brush of some kind? Can the entire filter be removed from the pot if necessary or is it attached?
Thanks.

Re: Obiami Filters
I just dump, hold under the spray spigot and swirl, empty out of the large opening, and repeat a few times. No problems here at all.

OK, great. I was worried that he'd have trouble with it. My tokoname has a sasame filter and I must admit I am biased toward that style -- even though I've never owned one with obiami.Chip wrote:I just dump, hold under the spray spigot and swirl, empty out of the large opening, and repeat a few times. Re: Obiami Filters
If it is one of the Dens Kyusu's or its obami filter acts similar to my dens kyusu then the filter can be removed if necessary as after many uses sometimes it helps to take an old tooth brush to it with some hot water just give it an extra good cleaning.tortoise wrote: Can the entire filter be removed from the pot if necessary or is it attached?

Re: Obiami Filters
I have even used a stiff toothbrush on a dry screen (not obi ami, and it was very fine and clogs easily) with very good results. In this case it was scale, not leaves. But again that was a very fine screen.
