Saving energy, less water

by teanon » Nov 3rd, '10, 15:41

noob here.

I'm just curious if anyone has investigated the energy it takes to keep boiling water at your disposal while serving. I had the thought that it might be more efficient to keep a large container of room temperature water near by and boil a few pot's worth of water at a time.

More efficient, more tea gear?

I tend to boil a full kettle of water then pour it into an insulated caraffe. this will keep the water very near boiling (or whatever temperature) for several hours (depending on caraffe construction). it saves me time and energy reboiling water, esp since there may be 20 min or so between infusions. if it gets too cool i just reboil.

I use a Tiger hot water dispenser and leave it on constantly. It's very rare that I ever turn it off, at least over the last six months or so. They're supposed to be very energy efficient and I haven't noticed any difference in the electric bill. I think my fans use much more energy than the dispenser.
