at teapots even though you don't really need another one? I asked this on IM yesterday and thought I would like to see how many addicts are here that just tease themselves by looking at pots all the time. I drink two teas mainly and I have two teapots. A cheap yixing for dan cong and my kyusu for my long jing. That should be all I ever need really and yet it's not. I find myself wanting more and more. Lately I have been looking for older pots that are in a price range I shouldn't even be looking at. Thinking to myself, rent doesn't have to be paid right on the 1st, or maybe I can skip lunch for the next few months. I am even trying to figure out what new tea I would start drinking once I get this teapot that I don't need. lol.
So yeah. It is official. I am an addict.
Re: Ever find yourself looking...
teapots ... cups ... more tea ...
Yeah that happens occasionally.
And by occasionally I mean constantly.
Ha.

I have been there
I have done that
I have bought them
there are pots stashed away in every bedroom

Re: Ever find yourself looking...
Guilty as charged.
But the good news is, like any addiction, there are plenty of ways to justify it. For example, when you buy a good quality Yixing pot (especially vintage), it will only increase in value. It's like investing in art that you can use, and the more you use it, the more valuable it becomes! What a deal!
Also, good quality Yixing clay is getting increasingly hard to find. Buying a good pot now is going to be a lot cheaper than buying a good pot ten years from now. So, don't think of it as "spending," think of it as your money accruing interest while it sits on your shelf and makes you delicious tea! Now, of course, if you accidentally break the pot or if some knowledgeable tea aficionado burglar sneaks into your house, then all of what I just said is out the window.
Let's not forget that learning about tea and teaware is an education. You can always think of buying pots and using them as learning experiences. It's all just part of your tuition. Very few educations in life are ever free, right?

All I can say is that with my powers of justification, it's a darn good thing I got into good healthy tea, rather than any harder drugs.

Sometimes I spend hours...and everything I love is sooo expensive.

Hey, it's an interesting topic!
People in China as you guys who like tea and teapot also have the same question "when to stop buying pots or is ten enough", but all they do is continuing buying.
Some of my father's friends have more than one hundred pots and they are still crazy about that.
When it comes to the zisha teapots, they are always excited and treat all their pots as treasures.
As for beginners, I think it's better to buy just a good pot. You will find that your pot is getting much more beautiful after carefully using for a long time. During that time, you need to learn how to distinguish good one from bad in ways of watching different pots, searching info from internet and members here.
I agree with tingjunkie that sometimes good pots can be seen as an investment, but only if you can identify the high quality and good ones.
In addition, it's all right to buy a pot just because you like it withinin your budget limit.

Re: Ever find yourself looking...
I can barely check a new tea site w/o seeing what pots they have. Sometimes I judge a vendor by their wares. I have soooo many sites saved as faves, it is ridiculous, I could NEVER buy from all of them. So I create folder levels, 1 being the best sources, 2, 3, 4, so on.
I will always go out of my way to see kyusu-s. They are so beautiful, and they create such amazing tea! Is it any wonder???

My Bookmarks list was so long,(How long was it?) I had to scroll it to see everything. I thought I was being clever when I put all the tea vendors into one folder. But you did me one better. I'm going to start out with just three folders. (Good, Gooder and Goodest) I don't want anybody to think I stole the idea from you!
