Problem with Purion

by ck2998 » Nov 10th, '10, 09:53

Dear members,
I would like to seek your opinion on a Purion teapot that I bought via mail order from Lin's studio.
When the teapot arrived, I was disappointed to see 2 discoloured areas.

I have not seen this distinct surface colour change in the Purion catalogue or even in the Purion teacup that I bought. The surface is usually even with nice blending in of various shades.

But this distinct blotches put me off.
I sent the pictures to the sales representative to be told that the colour are natural and normal.

Has anyone similar experience with Purion.
Thanks for looking and appreciate your opinion.

That's just how it's supposed to look. Looks fine to me.

Reduction? Looks like in the firing there are areas less exposed to O2. If it is reduction, this is considered ... good!

Although I never really noticed it, my purion (same teapot, I think) has similar marks.

This is a set I purchased from Hou De in 2007. it has the same type of discoloration. This is normal. In fact, I think it adds character to the pieces. It is my understanding that the Purion products are fired multiple times. I think this may add to the discoloration affects.

IMO, the kiln effects on both britt's and your pieces add artisanal beauty. I really like how they don't look mass produced, even if they are :)
