I was told by a teashop seller that she does not prefer to polish, as it will look unnatural glossy. And if sometimes when polished, the glossiness can be quite uneven to see.
So, do you polish your yixing teapots? Any secret techniques?
Re: Do you polish your yixing?
I use 5 different tea towels according to its smoothness. Polishing is in life of many Yixing lovers.
First period-polishing is really important in order to get natural shines. When a luster grew to some point, I tend to get lazy
A friend of mine who runs Yixing store polishes a pot the way GI soldiers polish their shoes!

I intend too, but often fail to achieve my intention
A secondary, allied question, would be do you assist the seasoning process by pouring the rinse tea, or leftovers over the outside of the teapot?

No polishing, here, except to try to remove the tannic staining from the glazed surfaces of yunomis and other teacups.

Re: Do you polish your yixing?
Yes, but there is a sliding scale of how much the pot gets, depending on the quality of the tea. If I'm drinking really good stuff, the pot is out of luck and goes hungry that night.Herb_Master wrote: A secondary, allied question, would be do you assist the seasoning process by pouring the rinse tea, or leftovers over the outside of the teapot?

There is no way I would add a foreign agent to my arsenal for polishing purposes. I only use a Chinese made cloth I got here and use it every now and then after the brewing session.

I don't know man, have you ever tried the Egyptian cloths? Higher thread count, and faster drying.mayayo wrote:There is no way I would add a foreign to my arsenal for polishing purposes. I only use a Chinese made cloth I got here and use it every now and then after the brewing session.
