Concerns about O-Cha.com O-Cha tea

by bhwmunchen » Dec 9th, '10, 13:31

Having doubts about ordering from O-Cha.com or O-Cha

I Google the address on the O-Cha.com website and no matter how I search Google it is a no hit on Google map or anywhere else. Checking out the WHOIS domain name resolves to a company which according to Google does not exist at that location. In this day and age you have to be careful buying on the Internet so I always check out any company I do business with before I purchase anything. Anyone else have any positive or negative experience with O-cha.com or O-cha tea ? There is no telephone number anywhere on their website.

I´ve personally ordered from O-cha 3 times this year, and recommended my Mom order from O-cha. Neither of us have had any problems.

Also I´ve written to the owner Kevin via e-mail to ask about some of his products and received a reply fairly quickly considering the time zone differences.

The forum search does not like 3 letter words, so the dash does not help. I would venture a guess that they have been mentioned on TeaChat well over 1000 times ... er 1000s of times.

You can google search TeaChat for O-Cha ...

Anyway, O-Cha.com is perhaps the original online vendor for Japanese teas sold directly to the West. Many members can vouch for their credibility and integrity.

Also discussion on the O-Cha TC TeaVendor guide ... http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=11658

They have been around for years and have been the only online vendor to be able to offer Tsuen teas, the oldest tea house in Japan ... 23 generations.

You can order with confidence, also a lot of online vendors do not include their phone numbers.

Hmm, no luck on google.jp for me either.

Ah well, I've ordered from them with success, and will continue to do so in the future.

I was a member of O-Cha's TotM club for some time. That are a great company and I highly recommend them.

You live in Canada, right? I'm reading on their website that the EMS parcels they send up here tend to get nabbed by customs but the First Class Mail ones don't... Do you ship by EMS, and if so, have you had any major problems with or charges from customs?

I think it's safe to assume that many of us don't like Canada Customs.

Not me. No problems at all. Just got an EMS box of tea and hardware today, worth $300 (including expensive EMS shipping). Took 8 days total from Shangai. From Shangai to Vancouver 3 days. Stayed two days at the customs (EMS tracking shows it). I wouldn't call that a problem.

In perhaps 25 shppings from China and Japan so far, only got one with yellow tape. The contents of that one was in perfect condition, like all the others.

And of course, never, ever, got any fees or charge whatsoever from the customs, for both EMS and SAL shippings.

They do a great job, and there are nice agreements between Japan/China and Canada.

2 of the orders were by EMS and customs didn´t open either one...they took about 5 business days each to arrive at the door.

There shouldn´t be any customs charges on tea or teaware. I´m always a bit worried they will open the packages and damage the contents but that´s never happened with anything tea related to me yet...though it has with other things...candy from Mexico and electronics from the USA.

I suppose they´re generally not interested in packages labeled as containing tea since if the label is correct they can´t make any money off the contents

Well, I hope they are interested in all packages, really !

After all, LAX airport is in the US, not Canada !
