So I was looking for a new chashaku and then I decided I will make my own

I have some experience with wood and wood bending so I gave it a go. I used gaboon ebony and high polished it and left it untreated. They are smaller than regular chashaku and they work well
What do you think

Oh, very cool! But how do they work is the real question. My guess is they are a real pleasure to use. Next time you clear out your den, keep me in mind.

Wow, that's really neat! They look great, and the black really gives a great contrast with the bright green matcha!

wow, that's great. the problem I've always had with normal chashaku is that they are too long... but these look perfect.

Thank you everyone, I decided I needed to do another. I wanted something a little more wabi sabi. I have a new chawan on the way and I felt I needed something special for its arrival. I decided to use some scrap snakewood, polished and untreated

In person its actually quite reflective.
Here is what it started as approximately 6 inches

Hey, that one turned out really well, too!
Speaking of "polished"... the bamboo shaku that I have seem polished on the scoop side, while the underside looks raw. Is that...wax? Some other sealant...? Any ideas?

I think that is just the nature of the bamboo. From what Ive read most are sanded and filed. It is possible that maybe the top side might be waxed with bees wax. I would highly doubt it though I more think its just the nature of the bamboo.

These are really nice. I'm sure if you're willing to make custom ones, you might get some orders from this board.
