'Water-Drop' Design Bone China Teapot: opinions?

by fire_snake » Jan 21st, '11, 18:41

From ThinkBeijing:

This caught my eye. What do you all think? I've never seen such a design. Mind you, I don't have much experience when it comes to Chinese tea sets.

What the heck is up with the poem? Or more accurately, the piece of text masquerading as a poem? Also, how in the world are you supposed to put tea leaves in the pot? Or get them out? Overall, it seems like some company/design firm is trying way too hard.

fire snake,
this is a presenting teapot. many of the "fine" teapots like this are intended for serving tea, and are not made for brewing tea. the idea is to prepare tea in a standard teapot that can take the temperature change of hot water poured into it quickly and retain the heat, and then pour off the tea into this water-drop pot and bring it to the table to present your guests with tea. that's the idea; i just wouldn't suggest brewing tea in it.
thanks for sharing this teapot, i had never seen it before. it's a beauty.

This set is a broken pot waiting to happen -- too many small, thin areas

It is great when "art meets function."

However in this case, art is not meeting function.

I agree with an earlier post. The Water-Drop teapot is lovely but it is just waiting to get broken. One would definately have to brew in another pot and pour into it to serve. I just love the look of though. If I had it I would want to use it and show it off.
