Dick Lehman Teaware Sale

by chicagopotter » Feb 24th, '11, 14:20

Don't know if this is kosher or not, but wanted to share. Indiana potter and teacher Dick Lehman has just listed a bunch of his top notch wares for sale on his site to obtain funds for a new kiln. From Dick:

"I'm sending this email to a select group of friends and collectors. As most of you know, I am moving into a new phase of my life as a ceramic artist. Since I will be working primarily out of my home studio, I will need a small gas-fired kiln, here, to accommodate my work.

As a means to raise funds for the kiln, I have decided to offer for sale about 60 smaller works that have been part of my private collection of my own personal best works.** These works represent what I consider to be the best of the small works that I have produced over the last decade and a half. (**Earlier I also reduced prices on all the major works on my web site, and, on request, am offering some of the best large-scale works from my personal collection.)"

I wanted to share this because it is a rare opportunity to obtain amazing quality teawares from an American master.

Dick produces some of the best American made, Japanese influenced clay works around. If you get the chance...... pick some up.

Is he like "MUGATU" of the ceramics world, he is so hot right now, he could mold a piece of dogshit to vase and sell it for a fortune.

classy...really. No, he is just a potter recovering from a pretty serious cancer treatment trying to raise funds to make his home studio more functional.

Do you really know anything about Dick's work?...I find this post odd.

Yes, IMO, D's work has influenced many ceramic artists. I think his work with oxides and side-firing have opened the flood gates for the possibilities of what is possible with a gas kiln. I've long felt that the firing technique is far less important than the results, and I feel Dick has shown this.

"Classy" is an understatement.

A lot of Dick's glazed and side-fired works are hard to distinguish from wood fired work. His wood-fired work is also stunning. He's a great potter.

You're preaching to the choir here Michael.... While many potters will throw, alter, cut and reassemble, exploring to no end the possibilities of what can be done on the wheel, unfortunately most, when it comes to a gas kiln think only in terms of cone 10 reduction.
