one yixing pot for sheng and shu
It would be a crazy idea to use one yixing pot for all the pu-erhs until I get another pot?
Re: one yixing pot for sheng and shu
You can use 1 yixing pot for all if you are not taste sensitive...
But I think you need 4 yixing pots if u really want to dedicate them:-
Raw Pu (1 to 10 years)
Raw Pu (11 to 30 years)
Raw Pu (30 and above)
Ripe Pu

Thanks. And is it ok to use one pot for 2-3 months for all the pu-ehr and then dedicate it for the one of the category mentioned, or it is better to do right from the begining.

If you are not sensitive or couldn't be bothered, 2 or 3 months should be fine... but of course, right from the beginning would be idealsolitude wrote:Thanks. Re: one yixing pot for sheng and shu
Mixing sheng and shu is not a good idea in my book. If you want all of your pu bases covered, I'd say one pot for young sheng, one for aged sheng, and one for shu.
Re: one yixing pot for sheng and shu
IMHO, a yixing isn't really necessary for young sheng. I also don't care enough about shupu to go out and buy a pot for it. I just use 1 yixing for >10 year sheng.

I think you could get away with brewing sheng & shu in the same pot, as long as you use that pot exclusively for shu thereafter or clean it out and re-season it.solitude wrote:It would be a crazy idea to use one yixing pot for all the pu-erhs until I get another pot?

Since I probably drink young-ish sheng the most, having a pot (or in my case, three) dedicated to it means that they get the most seasoning love

If you've seen the broken Yixing pieces that was used for decades..there's a noticeable black-ish layer made - tea dust! It depends on how long would you dedicate one Yixing during your tea life..Yixing teapot is not glazed, it's a clayware..

Re: one yixing pot for sheng and shu
Thanks for the advices.
So, I started to use my first yixing pot and realized very soon the potency of the taste absorbance. After several shu I tried a young sheng (2010) which was strong, bitter, plumy. After this I started to brew shu (2005) which I drunk several times before but this time it had the character of the young sheng which I drunk before, so bitter and unpleasant.
This pot is a cheaper one and I will dedicate it for shu, young sheng will be brewed in gaiwan and I will purchase a yixing for shengs aged 10 years and more.
Do you know some good vendors selling 90-110ml yixing in a price range 50-100 Euros?
