Tea ID question: What is this...Bamboo Green ???

by BioHorn » Mar 11th, '11, 09:57

Hello,
Would someone please let me know what tea this may be? I bought it at Vital Tea Leaf in San Francisco.
They sold it as Bamboo Green (Zu Yeh Qing?)

Even with long brew times the taste is sweet with absolutely no bitterness.

Thank you

Heh, does not look like tea leaves at all. And the so called remedies make me wonder as well. And the price ...

I think they are real bamboo leaves. The website mentions "good for kidney cleansing", which matches the function of bamboo leaf since it can be used an herbal medicine for that purpose. And what the website says about "rare green tea", I guess it's either they didn't realize it was not green tea, or they actually mean it's a green color herbal tea?

Yeah the price tag is amusing  I am not aware of any special species of bamboo whose leaves are a lot more expensive in market then other bamboo leaves.

They do look like bamboo leaves and shoots, looking at the venation, this is definitely NOT Camellia sinensis.

Amusing indeed. Not to mention the units in stock, 946. So $95,000 bamboo green inventory ... listed under Green Tea and not Herbal Tea.

Thanks.
I was chicken. I edited out ("I think this is not Camellia sinensis.")
My gut reaction must have been right!

Good thing I only bought a small sample.

don't want to turn into a panda now do you?

As a rule of thumb when buying tea for the first time I always buy a small amount. Then buy more later if I like it.
