are pu's inferior to oolong and greens?
pu's rivals seems to cost so much more, it makes me wonder if they are inferior or not. for example a 2011 100g pu tuo cost $3 when compare to others it would easily cost you $30-40 for 100g. but as time goes it turns the other way around....ODD!

That is because pu-erh tea is not supose to be drunk until it is aged look up the prices for some 15 year old cakes and you will see that pu-erh can be the one of the cheapest and one of the most expensive most expensive tea's
So no pu-erhs are definitly not inferior ofn course I am probably bias I drink the stuff every day.

totally inferior. everybody please stop buying pu'er and sell your collections at auction on eBay. kthxbye.
Re: are pu's inferior to oolong and greens?
yes, but that still doesn't justify a $3 price tag. you dont see a $3 tag on a 2011 bottle wine.

Aside from Beaujolais nouveau, and Thunderbird, how many 2011 bottles of wine are sold in 2011? Some of those that will be quite valuable in 10 or 20 years might be pretty harsh and worth only $3 a bottle if sold for drinking now.
Re: are pu's inferior to oolong and greens?
It depends on personal preference, and you seem to be making the assumption that all puerhs are the same. For example the pieces that sell at 3 dollars each, may be drinkable but will not be the most exciting, or may have some big flaws.
Although whether it is inferior is due to personal preference. I will say puerh can be less pleasing in general compared to oolongs and greens in terms of public opinion of their flavor profile. That just means if you like puerh, then its awesome because you can get some really good teas for relatively little money. Really it is up to you to judge whether for you they are inferior, superior, or roughly equal.

You can find $3 per 100g oolong and greens too...and you can certainly find more expensive puerh even without looking at aged examples.

No inferior, Yunnan is like a motherhood of tea trees, with those sizes and sceneries..
the prices you've seen are however, might be due to their quantities are so many, and it doesn't need so many labors to make one. The highest priced single-estate teas are also Puerh? (LBZ, Yiwu)

No price is set for original set of Da Hong Pao bushes.
There are also dancongs that are astronomical in prices. The most comparable in sheng are single tree/bush like Dancongs--not places like Yiwu or LBZ, tho' I'd suspect that the best trees of these areas are quietly reserved.
The big reason I got into puerh was because I liked old tree tea, and old tree wuyi is very high compared to quality young puerh as of last year.

Exactly.entropyembrace wrote:You can find $3 per 100g oolong and greens too...and you can certainly find more expensive puerh even without looking at aged examples.
I remember the average export price of Chinese tea was around $2 per pound in 2009. If assuming the market terminal price is 3 times as much (in reality, often much more, especially for those teabags), it will be $6 per pound. No matter what kind of tea, the price can always range from few dollars per pound to $$$$

It has got nothing to do with $.PizzaYumYum wrote:pu's rivals seems to cost so much more, it makes me wonder if they are inferior or not.
Puerhs are totally different energy (earth-spleen) compared to greens (spring-liver) or red tea (winter-kidneys).
The trick is to enjoy them all.
