Polishing teapot with sandpaper

I didn't managed to snap the photo of the teapot before it is being polished. The shop says that picture 1 is how the colour and texture looks like (it is a different pot).

Process of polishing, is to use sandpaper roughness 500, 1000, 1500, 2000.

Each sandpaper is divided into 4 pieces and each piece for 30 minutes. Use water to wet and rinse the teapot in between. Total hours to spend, 16.

This is the result of 4 hours work. WIll try to show the result when it is ready.

PS: The teashop got influenced by another forumer here who has successfully polished his pot so beautifully

Wouldn't be much easier (and quicker) to use an electric buffer for the larger surface area of the pot?

For someone skilled with abrasive flap wheels or electric buffers it might be easier- until the moment it snatches the pot from your hands and throws it against the floor.

Many yixing pots are polished. Burnished is a term used to denote this. The drawback to polishing is that the pot won't take a patina very well but it will look clean for a very long time.

In my field, ancient sculpture, polished stones will age differently and have a different look to them than the unpolished ones.

Below is a link to my Facebook album where I have posted my polished pots.I only polished 3 pots.If any of you are interested I can teach you how to do it step by step.Using sandpaper will not cover the breathing holes in the tea pot.I did not apply any wax.In one of my pictures,I have actually taken the picture of the bottom of the tea pot.You can see how it was when it was not polished.

Note: The polished pots are the last 2 pots in the album.
