Welcome one and all to TeaDay on a French mountaintop watching an epic stage of the Tour de France. Please stop in and share what is in your cup with us. Also discuss the topic of the day.

Yesterday we discussed "how the west was won." Please continue to discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Yesterday and today are EPIC mountain stages of the Tour de France. So, name the tea you would most likely bring along for mountain top TEA? Please share.

I really like greens, but for a mountain top tea it seems like an oolong or puerh would be better somehow. Not sure the exactly type though.

Yet, since far from the mountains, having some shincha Kunpu right now.

I would go with a black from Nilgiri area.. I like the lighter flavors i get off the ones I have tried.. and maybe i would sneak a Earl Grey along just for grins and giggles

For me, Yan Cha is a perfect choice.
Right a week ago, I stayed several days in Jingshan Mountain where there's a famous green tea named Jingshan Cha 径山茶. But besides tasting Jingshan Tea there, I prefer my Yan Cha 大红袍.

I have been thinking about this while watching the Tour de France. I am going with a cold brewed sencha (made some gyo thrown in) with a touch of honey added for energy and preservation. Maybe this heat wave we are experiencing is influencing me as well!

Yesterday's tour stage was pretty amazing, and today's will be even better yet!

Began the TD with Yutaka Midori shincha from the O-C with the Mrs. ... hot brewed ...

But now I am thinking of cold brewing some sencha.

I very much enjoyed some cold-brewed Da Yu Ling from jingteashop while taking in the scenery along the Angeles Crest Highway yesterday. Hot weather, cold rich tea, and stark scenery made for a very memorable afternoon.



Today, first morning sencha in two weeks, Aoi from O-Cha. Mmmm.

I would take Puerh with me. I'm assuming that the temperature and humidity on the mountaintop are much more comfortable than here at sea level in NJ. No thermometer needed for tea that is brewed with boiling water, and short enough steeps to count, so no timer.

On the other hand, my non-AC kitchen, while hot, is cooler than the great outdoors. I'm concentrating on green teas that use 140* to 150* water. so first I drank the last of my 2010 Asa-Giri and now I'm drinking some delicious 2011 An Ji Bai Cha from Jing while trying to recall why I didn't order more along with the TPHK.

If I was sitting atop a mountain, I'd love to be sipping some gyokuro. There's something very calming about green tea that connects it, in my mind, with a serene mountain view.

No green tea today except for iced green tea, because it has been HOT HOT HOT (my bedroom was about 100 degrees Fahrenheit this afternoon, I checked). I had some Yunnan black tea for breakfast and am sipping a chrysanthemum tisane right now. And methinks I shall be sleeping on the living room floor tonight...no 100-degree bedroom for me, thanks!

Iced Japanese green experiments today, revisited after a longggg absence. Some went good, and one went not good ... but it was a bad tea anyway.

Another hot day tomorrow and more opps to cold brew some greens.

Enjoyed a truly epic stage this evening of the Tour de France including insane climbs up the Galibier and a mountaintop finish on l'Alpe d' Huez.

Enjoyed a truly epic stage this evening of the Tour de France including insane climbs up the Galibier and a mountaintop finish on l'Alpe d' Huez.

14 year old granddaughter Alex and I watched it, too! Some of those spectators are jerks!!! I was able to give her a history lesson and a geography lesson, along with a culture/sports lesson at the same time and she enjoyed it!! She felt that some of the spectators were "unfair" to the riders. I do love that child (that is on the brink of womanhood)!!

We drank Golden Lion Assam while the race was on; we had Red Leaf Lavender Earl Grey this morning. It is an Earl Grey with some "oomph" to it; she liked it. It's the only Earl Grey that I've enjoyed in years. Can really experience the lavender in it.
