Porcelain Infuser Tea Mugs

by Qilin » Oct 12th, '11, 05:37

How well do they work? They look like this only the ones I saw in a local shop were much more delicate and pretty.

They have large baskets and flat lids for you to rest the baskets on. I'm just concerned about the hole drainage issue. I more or less drink only Chinese teas. Will infusions be a problem?

Infusions should not be a problem. I have used this type of cup (by necessity) and found it worked fine. Certainly not my first choice, but they would work for a place or time when you simply could not have a full setup.

I managed to dig one out of storage (my parents bought it on a whim years ago).

Result: I'm not used to brewing with such a high water to leave ratio and bits made their way through the holes.

I miss my gaiwan.

The Korean infuser mugs are pretty nice. We have two, and use them if we're brewing tea in a more casual way.

I had a pair of the Korean style a(handleless) infuser mugs, which in theory were great for the office, but when I wanted to brew teas hot--puerhs, oolongs--I was getting hot fingers. They're great for cooler brewed green and white teas, though.

Yeah - we have one with handle and one without. I agree that the kind without the handle is uncomfortable to hold if very hot water is used, especially if it's full.

Nice cup Yardley. What do you like to brew in it?
