According to seller this artist is one of the few top makers of Temmoku in Taiwan. He even has a few books. This is one of it.

Oil spot prices can vary so much. A lot depends upon who is the artisan ... and then there are the aesthetics which often I find hard to distinguish a 50 USD one from a 150 USD one.

I guess this is why I have not taken the plunge yet. I want to understand it more (aka analysis paralysis saves lots of money again! )

I guess also gravitating towards wabi-sabi over this perfection ... but these can be stunning.

It´s immediately apparent to me....but that just makes me wish I could spend thousands of dollars on one. :?

Just for reference, the artisan Temmoku above is USD 965

There isn't other alternatives locally, so I hope the price paid is not a 'cut throat' price.

<gulp> May it bring you many years of enjoyment.

There are always higher and higher price levels for premium teawares.

I tend to be with Ian on this ... anything that expensive would scare me to use ... heck to even pick up ... hm, to even look at w/o touching.

I heard those cups should be fired at the highest temperature ever,

and it's glaze and base clay should contain lots of iron,

to imitate Song dynasty's local Fujian style.

Today's contain lots of chemical ingredients, bubble and warped spot (due to high firing) are seldomly seen. Black texture helps to appreciate the bubble of tea, quite important to Matcha and in Song tradition,

seems in Taiwan and Fujian it is mainly produced today..not sure about in Japan.

I find these just stunning. I've been scouting some oil-spot glaze items on Mago's eBay site but the major maker of those doesn't do much in the smaller (and cheaper) sizes I prefer to drink from. Some day....
