Hi,
I've had a cheaper porcelain teapot for a few years for white tea as well as a little green tea. (it's a little large, probably 20oz, I wouldn't mind a slightly smaller one, though i do drink a lot). I was wondering what might be the best upgrade? I have a flexible budget. I thought cast iron was supposed to be better, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Not cast iron. Thats a Teavana sales myth. Especially not for more delicate greens anyway. Now I woukd love a cast iron KETTLE..but not a teapot. If you want a smaller cost effective porcelain pot that would be for all around use between teas you can try the couple at Den's Tea. otherwise for tokoname pots..Artistic Nippon has nice stuff (artisan or hand made) Also soem of our local artisans on the boards like Petr Novak, adrsej Bero and Teadoff sells for Seong-il a Korean Potter

Pretty much spot on. You wouldn't want to use an Yixing teapot, unless it's Zhuni, and even then it's still not a great fit. You'd be better off with a smaller glass or porcelain teapot, or like Iannon says anything handmade from our potters or Japanese teawares.iannon wrote:Not cast iron. Thats a Teavana sales myth. Or a well-seasoned duan ni. But this is unfortunately a very slow process, years at least.Acaelus wrote:iannon wrote:You wouldn't want to use an Yixing teapot, unless it's Zhuni...
If you want to be more practical try to upgrade to a smaller porcelain pot (Chinese). No idea about Japanese teaware, sorry.

Gaiwan doesn't count as teapot? I'd have nicely painted Jingdezhen Gaiwan..

Yeah, pretty much skip the tetsubin teapot. The more tea you brew, the more cumbersome you will likely find it to be.
Greens and whites of Chinese origin are pretty adaptable to most non porous (or at least minimally porous) materials such as porcelain, glass, tokoname clay, glazed clays such as Hagi.
Forms can be pot, gaiwan (or gaiwanesque), tall glass, whatever.
Some greens and whites are particularly nice in a tall glass so you can view the leaves in literal action (the dancing of the leaves) ... particularly needle forms such as Zhu Ye Qing.
