Welcome to Phase 2 of Hagi SO 17 Oribe SOU-SHUN “Comes the Spring” which depicts a changing of seasons as Winter Whites give way to the Greens and Raindrops of Spring.
From the Hagi innovator Yamane Seigan comes a totally brand new offering, never seen before, CREATED for TeaChat and this SO. Another TeaChat exclusive. In Hagi SOs, we often see tradition, but we often also see innovation.
This is an extremely limited run of this first time ever offering of this piece. The entire run is only 25 pieces including the Notched Foot pieces. So, first time offered and very limited run. Instant collectable!
You can view Phase 1 that has more background and information here:

This Hagi SO also is another first in the Hagi Realm as the innovator Yamane Seigan created a Hagi Oribe piece with a white interior … and the bleeding of the green into the white interior … and the bleeding of the white into the Oribe exterior. The effect is visually stunning and different.
With or without Drippies, these are gorgeous Oribe Hagi-s!
AND a bonus, many of these have desirable and much sought after “DRIPPIES” of epic proportions. In a firing, you might get one or two drips in the entire firing … or none at all. Here you have multiple, dramatic drippies on more than 2/3 of the pieces. This has never happened in a Hagi SO. And it may never happen again.
It is a serendipitous occurrence that the artisan has can hope for but not expect. Too much drip, and the drips extend to the Kiln shelf and break when removing. So, the artisan generally does not try to create the drippies but celebrates when they occur. So do we!!!
The glaze I am told is hard to capture in photos, but it is lustrous, deep green with multiple hues and colors. The glaze is satiny to moderately glossy, not a high gloss. I imagine this will feel “warm” and soft in hand. The glaze tends to smooth over time and with much use.
I am sure you will agree, they are beautiful and spectacular!
