I guess relatively clean is a relative term. They look pretty narsty to me, unless the "patina" was all from your use of them?BioHorn wrote:They came relatively clean.

Re: My 5000friend experience
Bio, those pots can still be cleaned. I wouldn't brew tea on them with that nasty grime stuck on them. Baking soda + boiling water and very fine sandpaper would remove it.
Here's what my pots look like inside (treated only with baking soda, boiling water and sanded down at a couple of spots):
I left the tea leaves in the second pic, sorry but not going to remove the poor things for a lousy pic.
We all know that 5000friend treats their "modern" zhu ni pots to make them look old.
__________
To answer your question: that shape looks perfect for "gaoshan oolongs."

Hi Ting,
Only a couple have seen regular use...so time for baking soda and or bleach!
Thanks Bagua, for the advice on the tall pot.
Maybe a cleaning and new pics? As I said, they look pretty well made. But then again, I know nothing about the subject.

Re: My 5000friend experience
They are not Qing's, China market is going crazy for Yixing teapots..Qing pots are sold quick as a day once they are released under 1000-usd (and seldom). 5000friend does business in China too, they should know that fact more than I do.
But as long as shape goes, they are skillfully imitated..more than average imitations..imitators did some study at least.
Their clays..I don't know..haven't bought theirs...and these pots are boiled in Hongcha soup..tea stains are there out and inside the pot..removing should be done first I think.

late-80's~90's. Rumor has it they didn't make Zhuni before thattingjunkie wrote:All psychology aside, you guys do realize that Yixing pots aren't supposed to be grimey, smelly, and gross from regular tea use, and that real zhuni pots from the '60's-'80's simply don't sell for a buy it now price of $24, right? We can agree on these facts, yeah?
Re: My 5000friend experience
Hey, yep, fully agree with your insight. But they brew good tea and are much better that most of the so-called modern zhu ni pots that float around English-written webpages.
I can't wait to go to mainland China and nail one of those pots for under 1000 bucks. I just need one, I am not that greedy.

Hey Guys,
Just got back from long vacations, I thought I had time to put a feedback on ebay but it's already over 60days and now the listing is gone.
I just wanted to let the teachatters know that I wanted to put a negative feedback, but I have failed.
Here’s his response when I contacted him regarding his pots:
Dear barlaf28,
Hello,Greetings! Yes,I has cleaned the teapot, but don't clean it thoroughly. If clean teapot thoroughly,it will looks like a new one.Usually my customer can use it directly. If customer Strict with tea, they can clean teapot thoroughly. For old teapots,it should have the smell before clean it thoroughly.
And it is easy to judge deliberately adding chemicals agents. When put hot water in teapot, the water will be chemicals smells. And outside teapot, the chemicals agents don't dissolved water. So water will not adsorb outside teapot.
I have sold many such small teapots, most my customer are tea lover, and they know YiXing teapot well. You can look my feedback and know that these teapots in safe and good condition.
Yes,I know the shipping fees are expensive when compare with teapot price. It will be not economical to return the items.I suggest that you can clean teapot thoroughly ,and use it .If you still think the teapots are not well,we will try best to solve this case. Thanks!
Best regards

Re: My 5000friend experience
I just bought a modern pot from 5000friend for a bit under $40. The craftsmanship and clay are both comparable to things selling online for far more. On cleanliness, it was used, but cleaned very well. The only residue left was a bit under the lid which cleaned up easily with baking soda, water, and a toothbrush. I think to be successful at this shop you have to have patience, luck, and hands on experience with a lot of teapots. But you can do pretty well sometimes.

My camera and lenses were stolen, I have not had a chance to replace them yet. I can offer this fairly poor image from the vendor in the meantime.

Re: My 5000friend experience
That looks exactly like the pot I just bought, brand new, for around the same price here in HK!
EDIT: Nevermind, after comparing them, mine has a longer spout and is slightly larger and taller I believe. Pictured here with two of mom's Jingde porcelain cups from a large set she's had for at least 20 years. Loving this little teapot.
