First Yixing

by oolongcha » Jun 19th, '12, 05:53

Hey everyone,

It's my first post here, and I am hoping to obtain some your wisdom with regard to a teapot I have acquired.

My girlfriend is Chinese, and her cousin in Beijing has kindly sent me a new yixing tea pot.

If anyone could provide some information about it, it would be greatly appreciated. I am mostly concerned about whether it is safe to drink from and not suspect in any way.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi oolongcha

I don't have any real knowledge of yixings, can't really tell you anything useful except I think this pot shape is called Xi Shi. Other people will likely know what type of clay and what it could be useful for.

But I think it's a pretty little pot. Capacity?

And welcome to the forum!

Welcome! :D

It is a Xi Shi teapot.
The clay in most likely Qing Shui Ni.

I have a teapot with that clay and when photographed it can appear with either brownish to redbrown color.

Usually using a tea like Oolong or pu erh is good due to its shape.

Hope this helps.
Enjoy your new teapot.

This one is made with Duan Ni. I have been told that this type of Duan Ni is no longer available. I use this one with TGY.
