Dear All,
I recently bought the following teas from O-Cha...
1. Kagoshima Sencha Yutaka Midori
2. Uji Sencha Miyabi
3. Uji Gyokuro Kame Jiru Shi
I love them all.
Could anyone please recommend me any other very high quality Japanese green tea please?
I don't mind buying from other vendors and cost is not really an issue...Just want the best.
I really enjoyed the above three by the way.
Looking forward to hearing from you...
Drink on!
Vertigo
Re: Highest quality green tea recommendations please!
I find teas from Thés du Japon to be far better than O-Cha's.

It is good to sample teas from multiple vendors to help you find what is right for you, individually ... and it is nice having variety as well.
But I always have a personal fave 5 list to order from.

I see you have Kame on your list there. I would quite readily recommend Ayame from our friend Xell (Hakoniwado). Competition grade Yame gyo.

... certainly ...Vertigo wrote:Chip, please do share your top 5 with us

O-Cha
Hakoniwado
Maiko
Ippodo
Den's
Zencha
A secret supplier who has some really amazing sencha that will be revealed with OTTI any day now
A bunch more ... I try to sample from at least 10 vendors of Japanese teas each harvest year, this year will be much higher I suspect
Teavana ... nah, just checking to see if you are paying attention.

OK, that is more than a fave 5 ...

O-Cha has a lot to offer, many excellent selctions worth trying!Vertigo wrote:I have tried o-cha...

Although O-Cha has been my personal favorite for around 6 years (they were also the "first" and for some time the only vendor to offer really good and really fresh Japanese tea), I am always looking and tasting others, my list is likely 30-40 vendors (likely more actually) ... many of these have come and gone or have lost favor with me. Some I tried once and would never try again unless some positive reports were forthcoming from other members.
But this is part of the TeaJourney I have chosen ...
I will certainly reply to this later ... time to brew tea now ...Vertigo wrote:Any firm favourites from those vendors which i should try Chip?
Re: Highest quality green tea recommendations please!
My favourites are Marukyu koyamaen, horaido, ippodo.
I like classic Uji tea, asamushi - lightsteamed sencha, and aged gyokuro at least 6 month to develope that deep falvouor.
I also trust Hon Yama teas from Hojo, that is the best from Shizouka.

From what I have tasted last year, I'd go with Kôshun and Asatsuyu. I have high hopes about the Hon.Yama teas too...
There is a blog linked to this shop, in French unfortunately for you guys... It has great info. Check out this page for example : http://sommelier-the-japonais.blogspot. ... zuoka.html
I love to able to see the trees from which was made the tea I am drinking. Some vendors makes that possible. I have to say I tend to go towards them, as it often means that they go on location by themselves and have wonderful stories to tell too ! And I love tea stories !

PS : Ippodo and Horaido are on my watch list too.
