I'm looking to buy a decent small yixing pot for my sheng pu drinking. I'm wondering what kind of clay is this teapot
http://store.thechineseteashop.com/Yixi ... 0p-001.htm
Is this made from Zini? I'm not too sure if it's overpriced or not. Anyway I chose this teapot as I like the Fang Gu shape and it's a small enough size for my own individual drinking

Would love to get a Zhuni pot but I definitely do not have the experience to tell real from fake
Oh and does anyone have any experience with this seller? Thanks a lot for all the help!

It is purple and made of clay. It seems to cost at least twice as much as it should.
Edit: Well, there is the small size premium, so maybe not twice.
Edit 2: I see they have free shipping, so maybe not so bad.

Looks like this teapot is a no go then! I will continue the hunt and hopefully find something decent.

Great shape, great size, ok clay, ok craftsmanship. I'd say it's fairly priced by today's standards. Not a steal, but not a rip-off either.

Well, that was my initial impression, but the free shipping helps a bit. It depends on how quickly you want a pot. I've been pretty patient after a few "tuition" pieces and have done well at good prices, but I might have done better earlier if I had just jumped in with a decent pot at a slightly too high price –like this one.

Several options:
1.
http://www.lifeinteacup.com/teapots
2.
If you got spare money to burn, shoot for a top quality pot.
3.
This duan ni pot looks great for sheng pu.
4.
Decent Yixing pot without breaking your wallet; I use it regularly and it does a great job for a very affordable price.

Sorry if I sound disrespectful but YS pots are to be avoided like the plague, most of them. That particular fake DHP pot is truly mixed with who knows what (I could even smell the damn thing from where I was meditating as my pots are sitting on a bookshelf behind my meditation area). It was actually one of the first pots subjected to the 'purifying power' of the hammer.

I have been eyeing that teapot for ages but the price is really too steep for me. And the exchange rate for pounds is punishing

I'll wait a bit and go hunt around where I live to see if I can find any suitable pots. Ed just reminded me that I don't really need to rush for one

Since you're in SG, maybe you could get in touch with one of the Thai or MY members who know where to get decent teapots in KL, and take a little bus trip.

Actually, yes, i did not notice.
Located in SG - why would anyone need to look at pots at the net? Plenty of pots available in SG, and even better a 4-5 hour comfortable bus ride away in KL.

Well there are no excuses

the main reason is that I have not fully explored all the teashops in SG yet to be honest. I usually only make the trip to buy and try out new teas instead of perusing their teapots collection. This will change in the coming weeks though
I would love to take a trip to KL but that will have to wait until my exams are over

Good luck with your exams! Lots of potentially great teapots await you once you get done.

I must warn you that the Yixing path is a hard and dark ones. Be careful and don't rush. Old pots are rare now, even if you can find it in Singapore, they are not cheap now. There are a lot of fakes or doubtful Yixing pots around in Singapore too. So be careful and try to learn first and don't end up with boxes of "tuition" pots.
