Hello,
I am new to the forum but I do have some experience with matcha and tea ceramonies. I find I prefer one with a nice earthly or natural tone but am open to pretty much anything. I'm willing to spend a good ammount but would want to keep it under $200. I do want somthing handmade and unique but im having trouble finding good sites to buy from. The link below is my favorite example so far. Please tell me what you think and maybe suggest some other sites or bowls.

You have come to the right place!
I am sure members will chime in with suggestions, but to get the ball rolling ... here is a great topic that features lots of Chawan-s by artisans around the globe. You will find most of these artisans ship worldwide.

Looking for new chawan
Have you tried places like Ebay, or even rikyucha.com? The latter in particular have lots of chawans to suit your budget and taste, depending on the type of pottery you like. Hope that helps, cheers!
Re: Looking for new chawan
Here is another one that really jumped out at me. Seems like the seller didn't know much about it and I'm not exactly sure if its worth the price.

Thanks I have been looking at eBay for a few weeks and there is just a lot of nothing for me. I will have to check out rikyucha though. Thanks for the suggestion and keep em coming if anyone can think of other places.
Re: Looking for new chawan
Hi Zentea,
The criteria for choosing a suitable chawan are very simple:
1. It has to be suitable for making macha;
2. You have to love how its looks and feels;
3. Affordable price.
Although these criteria are simple, most chawans you see for sale wouldn’t meet them. When you see something that hits all three criteria buy it. You will instantly know it when you see it. One of my favorite chawans cost me only $20 (bought it directly from a potter in Japan). One of my regrets is not being able to afford a Song Dynasty Jian Chawan in Singapore (a bargain for $950). I hope you find your perfect chawan soon.

I've been admiring that deep blue pool in the bottom of your chawan for some weeks now. I suspect that the subtle exterior glaze is one of those that looks much better in person than in photos too. It looks like it will be lovely to handle and use.

Re: Looking for new chawan
Yes I have contacted the seller and he has sent me more pictures. all the colors are natural earthly colors. The main color is green, but every person who sees the glazing will form a different opinion on its look. This is one of the reasons I was drawn two it in the first place. I believe it is a good instigator of contemplation while enjoying a delicious cup of matcha. I've looked at hundreds of chawan in my search and this one just kept speaking to me. No matter which others I came across I still kept getting drawn back to that subtle exterior and stunningly vivid blue. gotta love contrast!debunix wrote:I've been admiring that deep blue pool in the bottom of your chawan for some weeks now.
