Which pots should I buy next????

by sdsgibb » Aug 19th, '13, 20:34

Hello there,

Been reading teachat for a while and found some amazing info! Thought I would move from the sidelines and become an active member :D

Had a question for you guys and I think its going to be one of those 'i cant really answer that' ones... So maybe just advice or thoughts

So I'm looking at getting another couple of yixing pots.

So far I have this one: http://www.chitea.com.au/collections/yi ... ndle-150ml (This guy has some AMAZING high mountain oolong... expensive though, but best Ive tasted - which isnt saying much though) that I use for oolong

And this one
https://picasaweb.google.com/1079412429 ... mlDcqXiShi
from gingko at life in a teacup

I also have a small taiwanese clay (75ml - http://www.taiwanteacrafts.com/product/ ... pot-75-ml/)

And a porcelain one (http://www.taiwanteacrafts.com/product/gongfu-teapot/).

I have a cheap gaiwan from YS, but i dont enjoy it. It pours terribly... unsure if its me or the pot (lid sits all funny on it) so hoping to use the porcelain one for greens until I find a Gaiwan I like or a Yixing (any thoughts on the gaiwan issue?)

Im looking for maybe another 2 pots. One for oolong (green will use the side handle pot above for darker oolong) and one for puerh (shu or sheng and I will use the life in a teacup one for the other type)...

Pots Im thinking about:

Yixing Teapot Di Cao Qing Shui Ping (Yixing No.1 Factory style), $140. product#xppot3 - https://picasaweb.google.com/1079412429 ... cqShuiPing

Yixing Teapot Purple Clay Wen Dan (Yixing No.1 Factory style), $99. product#pot20 - https://picasaweb.google.com/1079412429 ... ClayWenDan

Yixing Teapot Purple Clay Shi Piao, $75. product#pot12 - https://picasaweb.google.com/1079412429 ... pleShiPiao

Or maybe a pear shape -http://store.thechineseteashop.com/Yixi ... np-014.htm

Now I stumbled across a site called tea hong... same guy that runs tea gurdian. Cant find info about anyone buying pots form him on the forums (which makes me worried) but he does have loads of info on both sites and they 'seem' legit(ish)

They have these pots I was looking at
http://teahong.com/tea-accessories/9101 ... level.html

http://teahong.com/tea-accessories/9102 ... -moon.html

So they are (or claim) to be Qingshui-ni clay... same as some of 'life in a tea Yixing' Teapots.

Now here is the question

How do I work out online if a site like that sells real stuff... Their pots are $50 cheaper than life in a teacups and come straight from HK. So that could explain the price difference. Do you know anything about that seller Leo Kwan?

Think it is also worth noting that I have a teapot from Life in a teacup that I am very happy with, Gingko (manager) is great to deal with and has help me a lot. I would highly recommend his site.

Thanks teachaters!

Sam

Maybe you could purchase a Yixing pot from another vendor who posts in this forum as well:

Note aside: you should know that lids on gaiwans are not meant to sit tightly as if we were talking about an external hard drive casing.

The lids on well-made gaiwans aren't supposed to fit so that they form a seal. The "imperfect circle" is supposed to make pouring easier. And prevent the tea from sealing the lid to the bowl.
